@morrigansraven yes it was. I get tears when Davos voice breaks. What a great character and a great actor. Truth she needed to hear. And I don't recall her telling Stannis that it was "commanded". Do you?
No, I don't think she said it was commanded. I think she said something about sacrificing king's blood though. So much of the subtext of this story really is what can be justified by love: of family, of your god, of power, of your king & country. Davos is unusual because we see the lines he won't cross. /off-topic , shame, shame
That's what I thought. An error or character flaw in Mel?
The blade was Valyrian steel, spell-forged and dark as smoke. Nothing held an edge like Valyrian steel.

Oh and...

Hmm. It's hard to know, isn't it? (B)Mel is more internally uncertain of her power, but certain in the rightness of her god. (S)Mel seems like her faith is shaken as well. I hope we get more of her POV, should Shireen be sacrificed in the books. As it was in the show, I'd say that her reliance on blood magic to further her own belief in Stannis, is a character flaw. What do you think?

I agree. B Mel is arrogant and overly confident. She acknowledges she's fallible but still puts up the front. S Mel doesn't give us much but the actor has done a good job of conveying her defeat. I hope in the show they bring her face to face with another red priest so she can speak openly about how she feels.

Couldn't take it seriously, 'cos of how he begged that same God, and Mel, and her 'Magic', to ressurect Jon. For no real reason, just for plot contrivance.

I hear ya, but I don't think that he had any way of knowing just how evil TLoL is. Before he knew of Shireen: Well, shit, I saw some shadows, I know you can get shit done, wanna give Jon a go and see what we see? After Shireen: WTF?! Too much!!!! Obviously I'm paraphrasing.
