Conquest, Immigration, and Holocaust Themes in ASOIAF

And Hitler drew inspiration from the colonization of America. For asoiaf, I think the multiple waves of immigration and conquest will eventually tie the Game to the Song.

Holy shit. More awfulness that isn't taught in history class.

It's ok, it just makes me sad that we whitewash it.
I'm very close with my one former exchange daughter. She's German, and one of the things she wanted to see here was a Holocaust museum. They teach it there, but she wanted to check, to make sure that her government wasn't holding anything back.
I just wish we were an adult enough country to be introspective. To be able to apologize for our horrible treatment of so many people; to look at our mistakes, to own our shame. To stop doing the same crap over and over.

This makes me feel ill.  It's one thing to be aware that your country had committed some horrific atrocities in the past, but to see it laid out like that.  The parallels are obvious even at a quick glance. It's amazing what fear of the unknown can cause a civilization to do.  Horrifying, actually.
Wonder if he would find it consoling if I shared my experience with him?
At least not the full extent of it. The U.S. has done a fair amount of questionable things. We might have started with the native American people, but we certainly didn't stop there.  There were Japanese concentration camps. People were ruined for being "communist." An entire race was turned to slaves and discriminated against for years.  Look at how we still treat immigrants. Anything that is different seems to cause fear. The U.S. doesn't seem to handle fear well as a whole.
