I just watched the 4 episodes of Preston Jacob's "Minds of Wolves and Robins" because the poster named Matthew brought it up in Heresy. He does a comparison between ASOIAF and some of GRRM's other work. Has anyone read any GRRM's other stories? What did you think of them?

Hey, on test site v.1.0, Mark G had posted those 3 videos, and yes, they were interesting. The one that's hive minded, right? also, I'm bumping this thread to the general area because I think more people will see it, and it's an interesting poll.
I read the first Dunc & Egg book, but I voted that I don't tend to enjoy sci-fi. The exception would be the LOTR/Hobbit for me.
Also: if you want to force people to vote, there's a option when creating a poll to hide results unless you vote for an option
“Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.” ― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
I admit to buying the World Book. I think I might have to check out his Tuf books now.
Yeah, I did too, and I was so excited about it, that I told my friend wellhelloitsdan right away. However, he was a lot wiser than I was, because without any outside crazy fan influence, he told me he wasn't really interested, because as he understood, it was "produced" by GRRM, not written. Sage words, indeed. Maester Yandel's debut publication is gathering dust upon my bookshelf. I think I tried reading it a few times and fell asleep.

Yes, mine is a doorstop atm. Beautiful art, though!
Thanks, Mojo :-) Yes, the hive mind theories. I can't get into the poll to edit it on mobile. That's a great suggestion!
Nope, can't change it on desktop, either. ::horseshit:: Oh well, next time.
BTW,this broke my thread cherry :::
Heh! I see my :: horseshit :: emoji is quickly gaining popularity! I have been trying to refrain from starting new threads so others will have turns. As far as I know, you can't edit a poll after posting it- I can't either, but yeah, that's a sneaky tactic that works a lot.
also, people aren't influenced by the other votes before choosing

Oh yeah. You can't edit the poll. I've tred and failed. The only way you can fix it is to create a new one.
Sadly, this is true, and aggravating if you forget to list an answer

I have read the D&E series, WB, Maps, and of course ASOAIF, and one day while bored at work I read The Ice Dragon.
However, I am not a fantasy/scifi person at all, and this genre in general isn't really my thing. I enjoy ASOAIF for the puzzle factor but my first love will always be my postmodern/post-postmodern peoples. Sorry George.
I just finished A Song for Lya. It's not bad, but pretty short. The ending freaked me out a bit, though.
Why must I always be the isle of crazy alone in an ocean of sensibility? The should to everybody else’s shouldn’t? The I-will to their better-nots?

Is it short? It sounds freaky in pj's video.

Somehow I missed answering you, sorry. I would say somewhere around 100 pages, but it was an ebook so hard to know for sure.

Agreed 100%. I read Dreamsongs last year while I was away from internet for a while, and really enjoyed it--there are a surprising number of recurring themes that also show up in ASOIAF! Plus the worldbook and D&E. I'd like to read some of his other works in the future...
Also, first forum post!!! *waves dramatically*
“That's how you get deathless, volchitsa. Walk the same tale over and over, until you wear a groove in the world, until even if you vanished, the tale would keep turning, keep playing, like a phonograph, and you'd have to get up again, even with a bullet through your eye, to play your part and say your lines.”

Hi right back! Welcome!
You should check out the 1000 worlds thread in "A Pod of Podcasts". Excellent short stories from GRRM, and every one of them are near mirror images for ASOIAF plotlines.
