I thought this thread existed already, but I can't find it.
Currently I am reading Book 3 of Richard K Morgan's A Land Fit For Heroes series, The Dark Defiles. It is the longest and so far the worst in the series. It's kinda hard to read, I need to find more books written in 3rd person POV. I plan on reading Abercrombie's Shattered Sea trilogy next. I planned on reading Peter F Hamilton's Commonwealth universe next, but I can't find a PDF version of the 1st book, Misspent Youth. I've already read every the 5 books besides that one and the new one, Abyss Beyond Dreams. But it's been a few years since I've read any space opera so I'm due for a fix.
I am the hybrid prophesied to return to Westeros.org and stand in its ashes.
Has anyone read The Leftovers? I saw the pilot on HBO and I'm intrigued.

I tried watching the show, and it was kind of boring. 10% of the population disappears which was the most interesting part of the show, and then they move on and the world goes about their same things except for a few people but their are presented as crazy people. I didn’t like how they started the show with this huge mystery and then immediately moved on and all but ignored it. Book probably goes into more detail though. If you try it and like it let me know. I might give it a try too if you think it’s good.

To your credit, I just awoke in front of the tv, so I suppose the series put me to sleep.
only worked for 4 hours though 😤

I’ve been meaning to get back into reading again. I have been so busy with my job the last 3 years that I really haven’t had time to focus on a good book, which is sad because that is the way I have chosen to relax almost my entire life. Mostly now if I “read” a book it’s an audiobook that I listen to when I go for a run/walk.
Right now I am in the middle of 3 audiobooks two of which are historical non-fiction by Nathaniel Philbrick read by George Guidell. those are “The Last Stand and Mayflower” I bounce back and forth between the two depending on what I am in the mood for. For fiction I am listening and reading Dawn of Wonder by Jonathan Renshaw. It’s a coming of age fantasy but at the moment pretty good.

That was me last night. Couldn’t sleep. I had to get up at 3:30 in the morning because I work at the northernmost part of my territory which is a 2 hour drive. Got pretty rough at the end of the day. HBO normally puts out pretty good shows, but that one wasn’t for me. I’m gearing up to either binge watch either the latest season of Vikings or the Expanse. Have you watched either of them?

I love Vikings! I got into the show when I was in Italy, it was on Netflix there. We have History, but I've been lazy about making the show, which is pretty bad.
i guess I need to renew my Amazon streaming so I can watch on any of our tvs at any time.

Big changes are coming to the show I guess, so we’ll see if it will make it or not.

I only was able to watch the first 3 seasons, it wasn't complete there so I have some catching up!

Shows like that I like to binge watch, so I’m all the way up to season 4. I have to wait a little longer because they are 20 episode seasons now instead of 10

silentmajority, I'm up to episode 4 of Leftovers. Maybe I need a thread. Why do they chain smoke? Why are they weirdos??

I think it's a sign of their faith and because it's the end times so they won't be around long enough to get cancer. It's been a while since I watched it, but I think that's the reason.

Im trying to get into it, it sucks. The first episode or two were fine then it kind of dragged.

I gave up on it. I started to read about it again to see if I’d give it another shot when I sign up for HBONow next time, and some people seem to think that the big event that caused everyone to disappear will never get solved or addressed. They think it was just a vehicle that caused all the events to happen. Which if true is a horrible premise for a show. Let me know if it gets better, but in all honesty I think you’d be better served watching/rewatching the Sopranos.

Its supposedly one of the most underrated shows on tv! I have no idea. I'll finish s1 before bed, when it's boring I just fall asleep.
