Brandon's act in going to King's Landing like he did does seem rash and not well thought out, but we don't have a clue about his motivation that led up to this action. We might find at some point he had some logical reasoning behind it, but until then, we can agree this seems reckless.
Agreed!
And while Brandon and Robert both seem to like to laugh and fight, we have only from Barbrey that Brandon was a womanizer (I personally think Brandon was a bit free with his charms), while we have many examples of Robert's love for the ladies. I draw a parallel between Brandon and Robb because of their temper's. Robb, if left to react immediately can be seen as rash and reckless. It's when Robb takes the time to think things through, that he seems more like Ned.
The very small impression I have of Brandon is of someone larger than life, as is Robert. We have very little to go on.
I feel the same with Robb, but that's probably because so much comes through the eyes of that cold fish and I struggle with her chapters. Trying to read them carefully hurts my brain... :bleach LOL!
So I've put Robbs rash reactions down to him brandishing his sword, starting to curse whoever before going "oh, that's right, draw sword when you intend to use it. Got it!" and putting it away. He does love his sword, haha! If Brandon had several days ride before reaching KL and STILL shouting as he did, that's on another level...
I compare Brandon's behavior in a way to Jon's behavior after he received the Pink Letter. Jon has thought about leaving the watch when Robb marched to war, when Ned was executed and for Ygritte, but he remained true to his vows. But the thought of Arya in danger from Ramsay Bolton was Jon's tipping point. (I don't want to say that Jon was deserting the Night's Watch at this time, but he was certainly leaving the wall with an army of wildlings)
It took a certain motivation for Jon to decide on this course of action. And Jon thought about it, talked it out with Tormund, made a plan. Still, a person could argue that Jon's behavior could be seen as rash or reckless. It's hinted that Brandon did none of those things, just gets mad and gallops off to Kings's Landing, but I don't think it's that simple. We have Jon's POV to help us see it from his perspective but we have only a mystery surrounding Brandon's thoughts and motivations and can wonder what lead to his journey to King's Landing.
Could be. The "Come out and die"-part makes me go , so it becomes a bit hard to see. LOL!
The men in his company is very interesting, and i'm not sure what to make of it yet. *Sigh* And these days I have a tendency to imbroil myself in discussions on topics I haven't thought that much about, to be honest...
In Brandon's case, I also think it was about a woman, and the only two plausible women so far in the story that might have inspired this rash act out of Brandon are Lyanna and Ashara. Lyanna seems too obvious to me, but it does parallel Jon/Arya and Brandon/Lyanna as siblings. That is possible, and I accept that could be the truth. But I lean toward Ashara. It's only a gut instinct and I can most certainly be wrong, but that is my current thought.
I must admit my gut reaction to B+A is no, but that's my own bias. On the other hand, that wouldn't stop him being head over heals for her anyway.
That is a very wordy and round about way to say that whatever inspired Brandon to race to King's Landing was very important to him. And if the very obvious answer (Lyanna) isn't correct, then the less obvious answer (Ashara) might be the great motivator. We know that Brandon Stark was going to marry Catelyn Tully, and she seemed to love him, but we don't have any indication he loved her. I think he loved another, and it wasn't Barbrey Ryswell Dustin.
LOL! Sometimes the words just flow!
I agree on that last part!
