many thanks for your appreciation!... and for taking the time to read the post Bluetiger !
There actually is House Bolling in ASOIAF,
Their sigil is: Vairy orange and blue, upon a black canton, a golden stag beneath an orange bend sinister - and the blue vairy looks quite similar to waves smashing upon some rocky shore - that'd be the 'gradual lose of land' in the real world, during the Bølling period
Martin is known to come up with very significant names though, whether by design or by coincidence, who knows?
If anything, this reinforces my belief that Martin was well aware of the de-glaciation periods.
I have not yet embraced any links to the 'Horned lords' or the existence of horned green men.
A link to the Durrandons would be cool though; as you rightly point out, they too were affected by waves. I once did write about who may have built Storm's End (the post is somewhere in the Hearth), but that was a long time ago...
Even better, one of the two known members of House Bolling was Ser Theo (a hint about some Ironborn connection?), who married Elinor Costayne
[Yes, House Costayne is a reference to Thomas B. Costain, but GRRM might use connotations of this surname in other ways]
Ser Theo!! the plot thickens.
I notice what the wikipedia says about Costain the author:
Costain's work is a mixture of .... and fiction that relies heavily on historic events ..
and why just throw in Ser Herbert? just to tell us he is dead?
Your finds are very interesting.
Does they support my theory? or do they support 'a' theory that anything in our world history and literature can be made to match up Martin's writings?
Once again, great comments.
