I think Rhaeger happened upon her the way the BwB happened to "find" Arya. She was a hostage, at first, but then Stockholm syndrome and a harp turned it to love. Love turned into marriage and marriage turned into a baby.
The blade was Valyrian steel, spell-forged and dark as smoke. Nothing held an edge like Valyrian steel.

If Arya's BwB adventure is a plausible template, it seems more likely that a fondness would have developed for Edric/Arthur, rather than Beric/Rhaegar.

Well, in my opinion, it was that old dirty dog Rhaegar Targaryen - Dany's brother, the one that died on the Trident - who was responsible, and I believe you'll find that my vote reflects this point of view.

Also, the meeting of a girl, just over the line of puberty (Lyanna was 14/15), she tries to follow the path just like her mother told her to, but straying off the path... is just so tempting, and she isn't going too far.
And before you know it, she meets a handsome man...
