I've been thinking about the pwip prophecy but more specifically how Selmy relates the tale:
- that the prince was promised
- born of their line (Aerys and Rhaella)
It's only a fragment as if only portions of the prophecy were overheard.
The specific wording is curious: that the prince was promised.... what? in marriage?
Which brings me to Prince Doran who seems to have an iron-clad promise of marriage to Sunspear with the offspring of Aerys and Rhaella. First with Rhaegar who marries Elia for some unknown reason and declares that their offspring is the prince who is promised. Then a contract for Viserys between Oberyn, Derry and the Sealord of Braavos. Something that Quentyn presents to Dany and although her name isn't mentioned; she says she is bound by it.
So perhaps the contract is a marriage alliance between Sunspear and any Targ dragon and the prince is Doran Martel.
- that the Prince (of Sunspear) was promised a dragon by marriage
- from the line of Aerys and Rhaella.
Doran Martel's interest may go beyond a political alliance into the realm of prophecy since he sends both Oberyn and Sarella to 'learn what they can' at the Citadel.
I suspect the prophecy then relates to AA or the PWiP coming from House Targaryen and House Sunspear or more broadly from Targ and Dornish bloodlines.
That would make Dany the daughter of Rhaegar and Ashera rather than Aerys and Rhaella.
A Dance with Dragons - Daenerys IV
"Why did they wed if they did not love each other?"
"Your grandsire commanded it. A woods witch had told him that the prince was promised would be born of their line."
