The Hound saw something ~interesting~ in the fire.
If the White Walkers could've just gone around the Wall, why didn't they do it a long time ago?
The answer might lie in the opening credits, of all places. Here's a shot of the Wall from Season 6, Episode 1:
And here's a shot from the Season 7 premiere. Notice anything different?
Comparison:
I know I mentioned this scenario in Heresy years ago, in conversation with pieceofgosa and Mace Cooterian iirc, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one to toss it out there over the years.
While I find it very plausible, I do think GRRM will bring the threat home (assuming he ever writes another book) in a far more interesting way (one that would not be kind to HBO's CGI budget). But I thought this was pretty cool nonetheless.
"I can see it. You have more of the north in you than your brothers."
Where are SlyWren's spoiler threads? I want to compare to see if they came true or not.

According to the Hound, it sure looks like it.

The Hound? Chicken eating Hound? When was this? When he looked into the flames? If they make him Azor Assai I'll be pretty irritated

Fuck. Given how much screentime they've dedicated to him lately, I wouldn't be surprised. Theories aside, dude hasn't been seen on-page since A Storm of Swords, chapter 74. But here he is on our screens in Season 7.
