Which ones?! Gawd i need to watch againThe "I wish you good fortune in the wars to come" bit.
I need to rewatch too. I missed a lot this time.
It was a mistake to burn Sam's father and brother -- Sam the (dragon?)Slayer.
That would be awesome.
I liked how the Night's King was able to sense and then interrupt/disrupt Bran's skinchanging of the raven flock.
Not unlike a certain wall of ice...
Of course, in the show, they neglect this distinction (but they neglect all aspects of skinchangers, save Bran). But I thought it was interesting that a man made of ice was able to disconnect Bran from the ravens in the same manner the Wall disconnected Jon from Ghost.
Seems to me that this might be a far more formidable weapon than ice-swords and dead horses.
It prefigures the ultimate battle in which I predict NK and the other Brandon will engage in a battle of the minds for the army of Winter!
I don't understand why so many people see skin-changing and corpse-handling as different brands of the same power. To me, they couldn't be more different.
Skinchangers develop a relationship with a host's consciousness. Corpse-handlers move the dead as if they are puppets. The latter hosts have no consciousness, and thus, it is a one-way connection.
The experience of a skinchanger is quite the opposite.
Now, if we are only talking about the show, sure. I could see them doing something like this because they have no idea what the heck they are doing. LOL
But GRRM's magic has rules and limits. Skinchangers bond with the consciousness of another living being. A corpse has no consciousness with which to bond, thus, regardless of how powerful a skinchanger might be, there is no means of connection.
Sorry to waggle this bone of contention. Tis an old grievance of mine. Rather than look towards the Mummer's Farce for insights into the threat from the North, we should look toward things that GRRM actually wrote. I can't recommend these three short stories enough:

thelasthearth.com/thread/1308/1000-worlds-override

They are dark, and depressing, but that is what it is to handle wights.
