Hi! I didn't forget the Shy Maid as much as I ignored it. I was looking for connections to the Fisherman's daughter (who I think could be Ashara, Lyanna or Wylla), Ned, and the trip from the Vale, through Sisterton and onto White Harbor and the Wolf's Den (built by one King Jon Stark). Those things all are told to us in Davos's several chapters in aDwD.
Hi!
I kinda got that, just got a little exited over "maid boats". The info in Davos DwD comes out of left field!
Trying to figure out the parallel's and inversions could drive me mad. Which is which? Could Ned have "dishonored" a highborn woman and married her, as the parallel with Robb, or made the beast with two backs with a low born woman and didn't marry her, as the inversion to Robb? Or neither? It could drive me crazy trying to figure it out!
Sometimes I suspect Martin of making us into mental circus artists, those that squeeze into boxes and stuff. (I won't even try to spell the name for them, haha!) Ned thinking in Got of weels within weels within weels... A wink to the reader from our author!
It sounds official to me, too! Like it was planted in Ned Daynes little blond noggin!
Yup!
We all have to start some where, some time. I didn't read aGoT until after the first season of the show, so I suppose I was "soiled" too. I hadn't even heard of the books until HBO put the story on my radar. Then I kept pace until season 3. I knew the Red Wedding was coming, but I hadn't read it. I actually bog down every time I get close to that and Ned's execution. It's painful!
I had finished the books by the time season 4 started, and I relished the Purple Wedding! Still do!
Now, I have read the books multiple times (almost obsessively) trying to figure the puzzle out! It's a slippery slope!
I hadn't heard of them either before the show, but only got my finger out (ah, damn GRRM! I can't use any expretion with finger in it anymore without invoking LF!) lately. So I was soiled indeed, haha! But that was what got me into the books, so I don't mind that much. Read a lot of crime over the years, and it helps pinning down characters and plots.
Ah, Purple Wedding! I'm tempted to call it a beautiful thing... Killing Lady, Ned, Robb and Grey Wind, I have troubles with those! Still haven't forgiven Martin for Lady!
whilst Ned definitely says that Wylla is Jon's mother, he also says that she is a wet nurse, who has served for years and years... me-thinks that she is more resident wet nurse than anything else and therefor was Jon's wet nurse, not his mother.
On both ends of the continent Ashara's name has been silenced.
Wylla =/= Jons mother. The silencing really bugs me!
I read the bold italics as Ned's throw away line to ensure the conversation with Robert will go no further as exemplified by the bold text.
Robert tells Ned he must have 'forgotten his honor' and Ned agrees with him to end the conversation, in other words 'yeah, yeah, sure thing mate, drop it.'
Ned's way to once again shut down any talk about Jon's mother.
And interesting that it makes him angry as well. Seems like anything connecting to Ashara makes him angry. So the wolf that should growl, but does not.
