I know people who connect the Stark's to the Pearl Emperor, and that makes more sense to me. Pearls are mentioned in this story, and Arya has connections with the Black Pearl in Braavos. A black pearl isn't truly black, it's grey. Grey like the eyes of the Starks. There seems to be a distinction between the Pearl Emperor and the pearl-white emperor's, so it make sense to me that the Pearl Emperor isn't associated with a white pearl. As to opal's, they come in many color's, and are often associated with fire in this story. One major opal in the story is on the cup that Mace gives to Joff on his wedding, and on that cup, the opal is associated with the sun of House Martell, which makes me think it's certainly not grey, but probably bright and sparking with many colors.

At this point, any of our theories have some things that favor them and some things that don't, and we can't all be expected to see the same things.
I'd point to my response in the other thread and the essays I mention thee where my interpretations are more clearly stated. I think overthinking the colors that are more commonly associated with each gemstone family complicates the interpretation unnecessarily.
The order of publishing makes a huge impact on why I think Opal for Starks because Opal is mentioned in AGoT in Dany's dream. Yes, I agree tourmaline is the exception, but Tourmaline is what is left for the Baratheons in the AGoT vision (4 main first wave families with four eye colors -> four ghosts with four eye colors), so blue tourmaline fits, like their eyes, or dark brown / black tourmaline like their hair if you don't want it to be just about eyes. Pearl is added later in the worlds book which makes sense to be tied to second wave characters like the Greyjoys.
