agreed, the show declined once it got past the books and at the same time started cutting corners (eg Sansa and Reek).
The show going ahead of the books was a kind of recipe for disaster - motivated by huge sums of money.
All adaptations can be difficult if you love the source material. And yes, the further the show strayed from the books, the more it stumbled. But much of the watchers didn't know enough to complain, and the earlier dissatisfaction raised from the watchers who were also reader's was pretty much ignored or written off. As I had felt the show had stumbled for years, and I honestly think S7 was the worst, I admit I was a bit surprised as how much the majority of the viewership felt angered at S8. All I kept thinking why are you complaining now? You should have complained bitterly after S7 and even S6. That whole "beyond the wall" episode nearly sends my brain into seizure activity!
I am sure Dany's fall from grace is the cause of some of the complaint from the general viewer, but also the almost amazingly quick and fairly vanilla conclusion to the Nights King story.
"Arya did not dare take a bath, even though she smelled as bad as Yoren by now, all sour and stinky. Some of the creatures living in her clothes had come all the way from Flea Bottom with her; it didn’t seem right to drown them."
I suppose it's possible, but then that makes me wonder why? Because the readers figured out his plot, which perhaps wasn't as tricky as he had initially thought it was?
Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.

Hello *echo echo echo*
Anyone want to try and figure out what the picture of the tortoise and the peacock eating leaves from a garden with the number 18 written above it means? 18 years until TWOW? He's writing 18 chapters about someone from House Estermont (turtle) fighting someone from House Serrett (peacock), and he's letting the real life interactions of the turtle and peacock inform his writing of the scene?

WTF does it mean?!?!
I honestly have no idea, but it almost feels like he is poking fun at himself? He is the turtle of course, ever slow, ever plodding, and is the peacock a representation of a dragon? His own creation of ASOIAF ready to attempt the peck the turtle? I have no idea what 18 could mean, but it can't be a year he will give us Winds, because that would be 2118 and we will all be dead and haunting him by that time. I guess I am glad he is amused by something!

It means George fucked off to the zoo instead of writing.
Me-thinks Georgie-boy is about to celebrate his $18th million for 2019 with a kale, peacock and turtle soup... whilst masquerading it as a lilliputian farmyard!

Winter has arrived in the world today, but not in Westeros. No surprise to anyone I’m sure... I’ll pop back in in another couple of months and see if the ‘’Big Guy’ has finally finished his homework or not.
