Finally, there is the courser, a war horse that can run, jump, and be used for hunting. Again, needs to be big enough for a man in armor or chainmail, but it is smaller or at least lighter than the destier. For this type, I think the Trakehaner, another old German warmblood, is a good fit. They are lighter and faster than many warmbloods, and excell in 3-Day eventing, which is based on cavelry trials.
Thanks for reading. I hope your mind-pictures are richer than they were before!
This is what I had in mind for the 3 hunter horses Arya stole from Bolton.

I still can't cut and paste pictures, but here's my imaginary Garron. Helps that it's also called a Garron. Apparently I have no imagination. It's specifically called a Highland Pony:
But it also reminds me a little of the horse Bugs Bunny rides in "What's Opera Doc." Just with fewer flowers:
Here's a couple of Highland Ponies working:
ETA: Thanks to Mojo for explaining how to actually bring up the pictures!

So while I am a horse-crazy woman, GRRM uses obscure terms for his horse breeds. This thread is my cheat-sheet where images of horses that fit the descriptions can be posted.
The first is a "garron", a smaller, tough horse that gets around well in bad footing, and doesn't eat much.
I'm going to match this with the Welsh Cob. They're bred to be strong and get around in the mountains of Wales.
Thst's a good looking horse, even if he is on the midget side size-wise...actually, that horse doesn't look that short next to those people, but I thought cobs were pony sized. Maybe 15h? I like them 16h+ a beefy

Forgot to tell you--I love this horse. And It fits perfectly with my idea of a warhorse, too. I think @morrigan is right--that's a friesian yes? If so, Wikipedia (the source of all truth and light) says they war once warhorses. So, spot on.

Yes, it's a friesian; a dream horse for me in general! I like to shop on the Internet in the horse classifieds for my dream friesian, Lippizaner, Hanoverian, etc. ... I've always loved black horses, too.

Welshies come in different sizes. Section As are smallest, section Bs are bigger but still below 14.2 hands. Section Cs are the cobs and they can go as big as 16 hands according to the rule book. This guy does look horse-sized compared to the people :-)

I was looking online, and I really like their heads. Nice shape, some have a little dip down their noses that makes me think of the Arabians a little.
Here's a screen cap from the Internet to show you what I mean:

So my mom talks about this picture EVERY time we go to the stable together, how she doesn't think it's the most beautiful horse in the world. I agree- conformationally- it's not my type. But the champagne color is amazing! But yes, I think that horse is an Egyptian or Arabian breed? Morrigan will know ETA: well done, Lady Dyanna! I see it's the same breed @morrigansraven cited above for the sand steed! That Turkish Turkmenistan horse...
