I read Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion in the mid-nineties. Read AGOT in 1997 or '98.
Did not realize until recently that the word "weirwood" appeared in Hyperion (published in 1989). Just incidental, really - but there it was.
There's two more books as well. Endymion and Rise of Endymion.
I didn't know weirwood was in Hyperion. Thanks.
Yeah, I never did read the Endymion books. Think they hadn't been published yet when I read the first two, and I never circled back. To me, those first two were just about too good for sequels. Still some of my all-time favorites. But maybe I should read the newer ones at some point.

The newer ones certainly aren't must read. Lol. There's a big drop off in quality and it jumps like 500 years into the future.
I am the hybrid prophesied to return to Westeros.org and stand in its ashes.
'...it was great. George Martin is a funny guy! And I got to hear him say, in 1981: "If I were really cynical," (I've told this story twice), "If I were really cynical, I wouldn't write what I'm writing now - these novels. I would start some sorta medieval sword-and-sorcery thing, and say it's a trilogy," he said, "and then keep writing it for the rest of my life."
'And I said, "Well, you're not that cynical, are you George?"
'And he said, "No, I'll never do that."'
Right. Never mind. It's still the best show in town.
