As I said above, I saw the link because they retweeted it. They retweeted it on December 14th, which if we assume was the day it was released then it's after they recently did that interview saying that they think RLJ's a fact and are just concerned with the how's and why's of it as IIRC that interview was from several weeks ago. No idea when they taped each interview though of course
Your lordship lost a son at the Red Wedding. I lost four upon the Blackwater. And why? Because the Lannisters stole the throne. Go to King’s Landing and look on Tommen with your own eyes, if you doubt me. A blind man could see it. What does Stannis offer you? Vengeance. Vengeance for my sons and yours, for your husbands and your fathers and your brothers. Vengeance for your murdered lord, your murdered king, your butchered princes. Vengeance!

So they are staying R+L=J is a fact but are lying about it?
Darkstar will be the next Vulture King.
Craster has 19 daughters and there are 19 castles on the Wall, coincidence I think not!

Not necessarily. But possibly. Really, Elio's statement just seems completely unnecessary and ill-considered. I can't agree enough with Melisandra 's response, which perfectly captures the way many should feel about it:
That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If Ran ever learned that something he supported was untrue due to his relationship with GRRM, then just shut up about it. But, if Ran changed his opinion after reading someone's analysis or after his own re-analysis, then he should just say he's changed his mind rather than support something he no longer believes. What a dick.
I sympathize a little with Elio/Ran because, while he was a fan first, he's now in tough spot - he really can't say much of anything without drawing criticism, or overreaction from the public. That said... he put himself in that position. And this particular statement is just bizarre.
Missed that comment from Mel, but you're right snowfyre. Thanks for quoting it. Props Mel.
It really is a bizarre thing to say, particularly because of the tough spot he is in, right? It seems to only undermine him as a fan, and as a source - be it a source of canon, ssm, etc. I don't get it. Was it a lapse in self awareness? A sense of teflon entitlement?
Does that infamous genealogy even exist?! Lol
"I can see it. You have more of the north in you than your brothers."
Well considering that it took like 3 days to come out with the "source" for Lyanna's death, which should have simply been that GRRM covered that in their lunch like all the other "new" info in the app, probably not.

I'm so late to this, but Ran knows nothing. Ran needs to shut his butthole, because he keeps leaking out bullshit.
It's the only way he can save face. How the hell would he know more than GRRM's editor?!
SHUT YOUR BUTTHOLE, RAN!

So narrow it down to what Ran actually bothers to "support" on his board anymore - I don't follow his posts so have no idea where the bulk of his activity is, but IIRC the story-related arguments that I've seen him personally engage in/support are:
1) RLJ 2) Lyanna as KotLT 3) Jon at Starfall 4) Anti-Lemongate
He has brusqely dismissed 99% of Heresy, most arguments that bring in any kind of comparative analysis to or cite influence of Christianity/Biblical figures, and uber-highbrow metaphorical stuff like JStar's "Rhaegar Lance Penis" - the latter meriting only a "Yeah...no." but still ironically being treated like canonical gospel by the faithful.
What else?
What is LemonGate?
I am the hybrid prophesied to return to Westeros.org and stand in its ashes.
That Dany remembers a lemon tree in Braavos at the House with the Red Door, but lemon trees can't grow in Braavos due to the climate. So there's something wrong with her memory of the house, which at least it seems most people believe means that the house was not actually in Braavos and rather somewhere else (Dorne is the popular answer as Dorne is repeatedly linked to the growth of lemons), but Dany simply can't remember where the house actually was.

Just so. This sounds to me like a bunch of smoke used to hide the fact that those two do not, in fact, know much more than anybody else who cares to read carefully.
(Quite possibly less, since they appear determined to ignore the theory that dragons bidirectional hermaphrodites, the outright fact that dragons have black teeth and bones, and the dubious nature of the theory that Arya's milk was poisoned daily at THOBAW.)

Oh thanks for posting this. That would be kind of messed up if they argued for something they know is false.Though i don't think that's the case that sounds more like back tracking.

Yeah this has always bugged me you dismiss one and not the other.

It doesn't even have to be something that they know though. Even if they simply no longer believe in the theory. through their own analysis or someone else's or whatever, they're still saying that they're going to publicly pretend to support it anyways so that people don't think that they personally know it's wrong.
So no matter what they're supporting theories that they don't actually support.

True,true.

Heh. They're probably supporting theories they actually support, but saying they might be lying in supporting them. This way one day, when they turn out to be wrong, they can say they were just lying out of "respect for GRRM" and avoid losing their illusion of flawless expertise.

I can see that.
