Why the hell does everyone assume Varys is gay? It's something that I'm finding rather annoying. I mean he might have a bit of an effeminate air about him, true, but I guess that's all it takes in Westeros.
Also, we get to see that though Oberyn wants to make an alliance (I'm guessing Season 6 foreshadowing concerning Varys and Dorne), Varys, the asexual who desires nothing, meets with another "opposite" that isn't LF: the swaggering bisexual who takes all that he desires.
The more I think about it, the more I understand why fans really love this portrayal of Oberyn, he's a wish fulfillment fantasy more and more. He has whatever he wants, with whomever he wants, when he wants it. Goes where he wants, does what he wants. He is free to act in whatever manner he wishes. And the funny thing is, I've run into such people who've been similarly gifted all their lives.

Oberyn gets schooled, and he's left to wonder if always getting what he wants hasn't held him back in some ways. Definitely not something Oberyn in the books would wonder, but in the show, he's exactly that kind of character.
