voice: I didn't "solve" the cause of the Long Night by feel. I did that by interpreting their ancient records (myths) in the most straightforward way possible, consistent with real world myth (meteors = dragons) and then verifying it with example after example of textual metaphor. I don't sit around and say "I kind of feel like it was a magnetic eclipse" because I feel like it. Voice, you know how I feel about stuff like that. I'm of the opinion that Martin has spelled everything out in the text via metaphor (as are you), so if you don't have text to support an idea, I don't have much time or respect for it as being anything other than idle speculation. Show me depictions of magnetism in the text and we can talk. Show me how the many many examples of moon meteors coming from the moon when Lightbringer is forged means something else. I've documented extensive evidence to support my claims and I am only interested in debating these things if someone is rooted in the text. Magnetic eclipses... sorry. I'm not seeing any of those in the many many LB forging scenes I have found.
As for your timeline, it doesn't make much sense to me, I'm afraid. A two thousand year delay? The FM make a pact and stop cutting down trees, and 2 thousand years later the Others come? Is there something I'm missing? How does that make any sense? "Time isn't the same to a tree" doesn't really cut it here IMO. And I think the whole timeline is bunk anyway that far back. I don't think it makes sense for the NK to sacrifice to the Others only a few years after the Wall was built and he Others defeated either.
And you really have to stop suggesting that the LH didn't slay Others. That's exactly what that the NW records say he did - he slew others with a blade of Dragonsteel. It's bad enough that you ignore all the many examples of falling meteors and stars and heavenly bodies to mangle "fallen star" into not being a meteor, and this ignoring of the NW records about specifically slaying Others really seems like selective interpretation. If your story about Dawn doesn't have meteors in it, there's a problem.
