Things I loved: Lyanna Mormont - Rock on! The Hound - Cleagane Bowl, woo hoo! Elder Brother - Finally! Asha - Bwahahaha! That was great. Blackfish - I have waited 5 long years to see that parley on screen. Was not disappointed. Bronn - One of the few things D&D have changed that I like, they kept him around. He makes me laugh.
Things I Disliked: Elder Brother - Well, that escalated quickly. Brotherhood Without Banners - I recognized Lem. But they're "bad guys" now. Is that meant to be the way they are post-Stoneheart? Glovers - Not every friggin Lord Stark has been awesome. Just bc you didn't like who Robb married doesn't mean you abandon you liege. Aholes. Arya - She got stabbed. But I have a feeling more is happening that we see. The Waif's desire to kill Arya goes against what the Faceless Men are about. Something's up.
All-in-all good episode and ready for the next one. I live my life one Sunday at a time.

The Brotherhood Without Banners were supposed to be defenders of the small folk. Under Lady Stoneheart, they went after Freys. It would have made more sense to say they were from "The Brave Companions".

I agree. Any idea if the actors were in the original band with Thoros?
The blade was Valyrian steel, spell-forged and dark as smoke. Nothing held an edge like Valyrian steel.
^ This. i was fine with Ned's death (even though he's my favorite character in aSoIaF), it was a necessary catalyst. Same with Robb and Cat. If Sansa and Rickon were to die, meh. i'd get over it. If Jon or Arya die i'm gonna start a riot.
There comes a point where through "shocking" character deaths you remove the only people i had to root for/ can empathize with in the story, and although it (the story) might be the bestest thing since orgasms, i have nothing invested and could give 2 shits less. So, fine, you have your nobody is safe story, and i have no emotional investment anymore. no need to buy anything further in this series. (this is directly counter to one of the principles of story physics, a hero to root for, which makes my head spin WTFWTFWTF)
This is exactly what I was trying to say. I don't want to be one of those bratty fans that says they'll stop watching if so-and-so dies, or if they don't like part of the plot. I love this series, and I'm sure I will finish it (in 2038 when ADOS is predicted to come out) - but my emotional investment in the story would plummet to the point that I doubt I would enjoy it very much anymore. Of course i want to know how everything turns out, but I don't know how much I really care if the Lannisters or the Tyrells win their little spat for KL, or who ends up with Riverrun, or even (strangely, I know) where Daenerys ends up. These things are all interesting, but I have little preference for a particular outcome. I care about whether there is a Stark in Winterfell when the story's done, and Sansa/Rickon only count if the others (haha) are alive and well somewhere else. Alive, at least. No one is going to be well by the end of this story, but I really need Arya and Jon to be alive, please. Or at least undead. At least until the end.
Brienne is only allowed to live because Jaime's not a complete and total bastard. She's alone in a sea of Lannisters. Though in the previews for next week, she says something about being "compelled to fight," I took that to mean she will man the garrison with the Tully troops.
It seems she takes off in a boat at night (per the preview)- I am going to guess that the Blackfish is in it with her. Just like he escaped in the books, after Edmure surrendered the castle. I'm not sure what will happen to his men; I guess Jaime said he would pardon them so they should be ok. Maybe they can take the black? That would work out nicely.
The other option is to decide by having two champions fight in single combat. Brienne vs Bronn, perhaps? (But the first scenario seems more likely, due to the boat scene)
The Hound obviously picked up that axe so he could turn the arrows into toothpicks.
This episode should have been titled "The Broken Wood."
Poor Theon. Everyone makes fun of him.
“In Qohor he is the Black Goat, in Yi Ti the Lion of Night, in Westeros the Stranger. All men must bow to him in the end, no matter if they worship the Seven or the Lord of Light, the Moon Mother or the Drowned God or the Great Shepherd. All mankind belongs to him... else somewhere in the world would be a folk who lived forever. Do you know of any folk who live forever?”
