kingmonkey , wolfmaid7 , I read all your posts, but it is hard to respond to them post by post, so I will answer to them (while they are opposing views) in this one. I am not very good with these symbolism(I read all I read on internet), so I might be very wrong, please bear with me.
I was thinking of two Wiccan Gods as having been represented by multiple people.
The male deity by Rhaegar (Sun god), Robert(horned god), Howland(vegetative god). The female deity by Lyanna (maiden), Ashara (Crone), and Cersei(mother).
So basically, any match between 2 out of six would have fulfilled the ritual, but it did not happen until Robert and Cersei married and that is why we do not have summer until after RR is over.
Does this make any sense at all?
To answer your question the solar god is an umbrella term for gods that fall under it.So for instance, the Horned god is a solar god.The maiden/mother and crone is the triple goddess or the Morrigan. We only have Whent's daughter,Ashara,Lyanna and Elia mentioned as being there at the tourney.Ashara does have a triple goddess vibe especially if she's Septa Lemore ,so does Lyanna especially if she remerges not literally but in another aspect. They all operate in the light and dark aspects of the wheel of the year.More to say on that and later.
Rhaegar looks like Mitra to me (pure Vedic version not altered Roman version).Him and Aerys have Lucifer/The Great Dragon characteristic. The latter Aerys, having a lot more of that Great Dragon/Ramses vibes.
So its all about which one of these archetypical story is showing up where and when.Do the players, their roles and themes show up.Then we can piece together what is most likely to be the case.
I see no reason why grrm would use an arc as this few may recognize but certainly talk about only to say...Ah it Rhaegar not to mention i see no evidence Robert's role was usurped.
