Having read Book 7, one goes back and reads book 1 and wonders just how that Horcrux in Harry's head was messing with the Dursleys for 11 years. Notice how not having contact with Harry and a break from him allows them to show up and be a tad (just a tad) more amicable to Harry in later books.
This isn't to say the Dursleys are completely scott free of blame for their actions, but it does complicate the situation a bit.
Hmm. But then why wouldn't Harry make himself miserable too? Or any of his friends? He spent a fair amount of time around Ron and Hermione and the Weasleys and they were all ok. Nah. It's somewhat logical, but I still think that the Dursleys were just prejudiced muggles.
Why must I always be the isle of crazy alone in an ocean of sensibility? The should to everybody else’s shouldn’t? The I-will to their better-nots?
