Consider this... nearly a year ago... ok nearly 9 months ago, GRRM officially commented on the status of TWOW and said basically... "I have written a lot, I have a lot to write, I have NO idea when it will be done..."
I think it is more likely we get a similar message this January... The question is... Do we get the same message a third time 15 months from now?
Benioff and Weiss have given GRRM a mulligan of sorts. What was really spoiled with season 6? Sure, the biggest question of the series was answered but I believe most ASOIAF fans have been living with the belief that Jon Snow wasn't going to stay dead AND was not really Ned's bastard son. I think we all had a good idea that Melisandre was A LOT older than she appeared and was fooling those that saw her with her Ruby necklace and a glamour. Hodor/Hold The Door was a spoiler... but what else? George has an opportunity to get his book done and he could and should have a January or March release.
But that doesn't mean anything. On one hand, I do want him to take his time and put out quality. On the other, if he could focus and write everyday... Who am I to call the man out? I am worried though... because the NFL has just started.

I know what you mean. Even if you love your job and get paid well to do it, it doesn't mean you don't need a flipping break. Maybe he's decided to just finish both at once to surprise us? HAHA!
The blade was Valyrian steel, spell-forged and dark as smoke. Nothing held an edge like Valyrian steel.

I was trying to figure out what exactly is spoiled right after the season was over but it is rather complicated in some instances:
For example, JoJen goes puff in the show at the end of season 5. Now many figured out he's not long for this world in the books too BUT, is the way he dies true to the idea of the books or not?
Technically a "turn Jojen to ashes" is not the same as eating Jojen paste so while this won't matter to anyone but the book readers, his confirmed death and the way it is presented could be a spoiler. Same goes with Shireen. Is she being burnt alive really what is happening? Apparently yes, do that's a spoiler, BUT is really the story of her death spoiled if Stannis doesn't do it?! If her burning is actually brining Jon back? Who knows? For Stannis fans it definitely is. So would it be for me considering that's Jon who's life she's sacrificed for.
It's just curious how my perception would change according to these spoilers or changes from the books. Which means I'm still waiting for Winds to get the story...

Uhm, no. Did you forget how comical Jojen's triple-death was?
LOL
I think it very unlikely book-Jojen will be attacked by a Halloween prop, executed by his sister, then firebombed by Leaf. Thank the gods.

Shireen's death felt very spoilery. And the circumstances surrounding it will definitely color the experience. In the show, I had zero sympathy for Selyse. I think that might prove true for the books as well. GRRM is not kind to zealots. Stannis on the other hand... I think GRRM has far more in store for him than HBO did, including his relationship with Shireen.
I also agree that sacrificing Shireen to resurrect Jon would be something to give it some weight. But doesn't that seem to cheapen Jon's awakening? Would he want to live thanks to such an unjust circumstance? Could he feel good about it?
I've had enough of conflicted-Jon. I'm ready for that bastard to enjoy some catharsis. I think if a death is required to pay for Jon's life (assuming he is actually dead, which I don't think he is), that it will be a sacrifice far closer to Jon and far more meaningful for him. I hate to say it, but I'd put the best odds on Ghost. Second, Arya. Third, I'd put even odds on Val/Dolorous Edd, with Samwell being too far away.
"I can see it. You have more of the north in you than your brothers."
I also voted for the release before the beginning of next season. I cannot possibly watch another Stark die or get resurrected or raped through bad story telling. And I am counting on him not wanting it too.

I don't like dead/resurrected Jon and any of the scenarios that follows. Mostly because he cannot possibly survive the series resurrected (by any means), and I want him to survive.

Me too. I really like Jon, I don't get why people are usually so down on him.
Ditto. Jon's chapters get a bad rap. I think they are fascinating. He is more wolfish than people realize... seeing, smelling, and sensing everything to a nearly supernatural degree... then his human doubt kicks in and tends to ruin his better instincts.
Mainly by getting rid of the above human doubts. I know it sounds awful, and I hope it doesn't come to pass, but each wolf seems to represent a Winterfell child's future state.
Robb became a Grey Wind
Sansa became a Lady in hostage.
Arya became warrior that sailed across the Narrow Sea.
Bran, the sweet Summer-Child, has become a greenseer (a fate I connect to summer, as the return of the sun is what melts the snow and returns green life to the earth).
Rickon was always a shaggy direwolf. All he needed was a dog to normalize it for him. I'm thinking he's a lot like V6 was at his age.
Lastly, we reach Jon. Jon was always destined for a journey into the crypts -- a place of Ghosts. His wolf will lead him there. Jon's catharsis lies in the dark, and I think Ghost will connect him to it. The only question that remains, for me, is how dead/nearly-dead each of them will have to be in order to make contact.
I do hope Ghost will survive the journey, but if I have to choose between Ghost and Jon, I choose Jon.

I agree. Indeed I cling to the hope that Jon isn't actually dead, and is only mostly dead...
And if I am right about the events in Bran's coma/vision/spirit flight taking place concurrently and in real time, an idea HBO's version seemed to support...
...then it seems that the execution of Lady awoke our Sweet Summer Bran from being mostly-dead.

I get your point, but I personally would hate this if it comes to pass. As much as I dislike Sansa's character, her story arc is supposed to be about her not Bran, unless she had willed it (and we were told about it) which was not the case. Let all the remaining wolves(human and canine) live!
Now that I think about it, Sansa might be the perfect sacrifice. She isn't listed among the survivors in GRRM's 1993 letter.
Didn't GRRM say in one of the recent cons that he has officially added Sansa to the the "main 5" who survive, making them "main 6"? Anyways, I feel wrong discussing this here, this thread was about WOW release not speculations about its content.

No worries. I haven't heard that SSM. Got a link? SlyWren will be much relieved!

I'm with ya. But I can't help but think that will not come to pass.

Lots of things have changed since then. My money is on Sansa living. Arya or Rickon seem more likely to go. Then again I have always been fond of the theory that Arya will live a second life worthy of a Queen in Nymeria.
Darkstar will be the next Vulture King.
Craster has 19 daughters and there are 19 castles on the Wall, coincidence I think not!
