I have read a lot of essays here, and just WOW I really love this thread particularly, and kudos to all the hard work! I feel really late to an important discussion thread that brings really interesting ideas into solid discussions. I will learn to use the "quote" function better, and I am repeating what SlyWren , regular jon umber , @superunknown5 , SlyWren ,@superunknown5 ,regular jon umber ,whitewolfstark ,voice ,wolfmaid7 , have said.
On the thoughts of Lyanna riding off, kidnapped etc., has anyone ever considered that Littlefinger was leaving RR about the time that Lyanna disappeared? Anyone as conniving as LF would certainly been developing and honing those skills. I saw no mention of LF in this thread.
Perhaps Lyanna was intending to "runaway" (and declare her love for Arthur?) and he encouraged her - he would have had opportunity. Lady Dustin called Brandon and Lyanna centaurs, which suggests they rode together. Brandon likely visited Cat at RR accompanied by Lya.
LF desires were simple: involve Lyanna in a scheme to discredit or distract Brandon so LF could have Cat. Or, perhaps LF planned to deliver her to Aerys or the Martells bc of HH to discredit the Stark's generally. Aerys conspires with this "kidnapping" to get her to safety to keep the 7 kingdoms' restlessness from expanding.
Aerys orders Rhaeger, SAD, etc to take Lyana to the TOJ to hide her and to give Aerys time to "explain" to the North. Actually, Aerys wanted all of these folks out the way. He did not want the King's Guard available to potentially switch sides and help Rhaegar seize the throne, and Aerys was surely smart enough to predict the Stark's/North's reaction. This would explain how the kidnapping idea took hold.
While R and KG are heading South, Brandon shows up demanding Rhaeger - the Mad King of course does not reveal he has instructed R to leave and that Lya is safe, and thus Brandon and Rickon and others are killed. Aerys' action here could be why Jaime was pushed over the edge - he knew where Lya and they were.
Certainly, the outcome of Brandon's death was something LF would have wanted, and the Mad King was able to destroy more of his "enemies." I have long believed that the letter LF sent to Cat, which she burned unread, had information intended to discredit Brandon to her. LF could have only gotten that letter off so quickly if he were present or involved in the plot.
Finally, do we really believe a highborn woman had a baby with only three KGs to assist? Wouldn't it have made sense for Ned to ride to Starfall, and be directed to TOJ bc WYLLA AND ASHARA HAD BENT SENT THERE to help with the birth, and that is how Ned knew to ride there? Wylla then being the milk other for both Edric and Jon. Which child was born first? So AL=J (or E), BA=J (or E). Either way, this is how they would have had the same milk mother, and how a newborn baby would have survived a trip from the TOJ to Starfall.
The strongest evidence that R is not in this equation is that Ned "had not thought of RT for years." Rhaegar must be in the equation with Aegon, somehow while he "traveled south."
