Did you guys know D&D cut a scene from season 3 in which Tywin & Pycelle have a little convo while Tywin is fishing for sea TROUT? Well they did, the feckless morons. I wonder what particular bit of inane bollocks we got instead of this wonderful 3 minute character scene?

That was a great scene! I imagine that they cut it because they already had the scene with Pycelle with the prostitute, and thought that having more than one scene showing him out of character diminished him. Just a guess.

Decent shout but my feeling is that it got cut because Tywin shows too much respect to Tyrion in the scene and that would have been OOC at the time the scene is set. The scene really adds to Pycelle's character for me plus you would then have had Tywin gut a stag, fish for trout & burn a direwolf. Severe facepalm D&D.
Interesting to see the degree to which Pycelle is faking his infirmity. And I mean, c'mon... "Pycelle" sure sounds like a Lannister name. This scene all but spoils it.

I wonder perhaps if Pycelle is a Lannisport Lannister ? Perhaps a close relation of Joanna's ?

Mayhaps. I can't pretend to know much about House Lannister. I was only going by the phonology of the name. One thing that has always stood out to me though, that I delved into here, is that the Lions have always been quite defiant.
Duskendale was Tywin's first attempt to kill Aerys and put Rhaegar on the throne, imo. If it had not been for the boldness of Barristan Selmy, the plan would have worked perfectly. Then, Tywin would have ruled through Rhaegar, who I believe was his one and only 'ward' (no, not formally, but I can think of no other man who could have raised and groomed Rhaegar). I think it is also telling that Rhaegar was the one and only man that Tywin ever believed was worthy of his daughter. And once Rhaegar was dead, only Rhaegar's killer would do.
But back to this deleted scene... Lions are rather prideful, as well as excellent at identifying weakness. I think this scene demonstrates those traits in Pycelle rather explicitly. I think there is evidence in the books for them as well, although as always, it is more nuanced. The Tyrion-Pycelle dynamic is one of repeated one-upmanship.
