I have a serious question for you voice! OK, maybe not too serious because there’s no way he answers this one, but it would be interesting to gauge his body language to the question.
QUESTION: Assuming that HBO’s GoT finishes the series before you finish writing it. How different will the ending between the show and books be? Will they basically be the same ending or has the show deviated far enough from your vision to give us two unique endings?

Are you allowed to get more than 1 autograph? If so, save yourself the money for a gift card and just get a second autograph for the winner. Maybe he could write, "Great question! Keep reading! -GRRM"
That's a great idea! I'll try. I'm not sure if he'll be doing autographs though.

Nice one! Tis now in the OP.
I think he may have answered it before...but maybe not. "Unique endings" is a very good way to word it, because they will undoubtedly be different, but they may not be unique.

A redditor has directed me to a SSM that may answer your question, "Why was Bran missing from the royal procession into the WF hall; the one that Jon observed ever so carefully? was it 'just a typo'?"
[Summary: In a response to Arion214 asking why Bran did not appear at the feast in Winterfell early in _A Game of Thrones_.]
Pam, thanks for your post, and all the kind words about A GAME OF THRONES and "The Hedge Knight."
As to your question about Bran... well, he =is= present at the banquet, of course. Jon doesn't mention him, that's true, but of course there are hundreds of others who are present as well that Jon also fails to mention... and Bran is an everyday familiar sight to Jon, who is likely more curious about the guests... the king and queen, their children, the Lion and the Imp.
That's one explanation, anyway.
The other one is that the author just slipped up and neglected to mention him.
But either way, he =was= there, definitely. There's even a moment in A CLASH OF KINGS when he thinks back on that feast.

The question was about the Feast, not the procession. But I guess this is not a court of law, so a retrial is not likely to take place on such technicality.
So, GoT is semi-canon!! the maester stuffed up!
Thanks for that. So the author made a weak excuse for his mistake. Jon was looking at the royal procession of 10 or so Lannisters and Starks, not 'hundreds' of others. And Jon saw all his brothers and sisters, but not Bran.
Never mind, I will take it that it was the author's mistake which can lead us to think that there are others like this in his earlier books (those not described as being 'a bitch').
I regularly see typos in books and usually the context is obvious, so it does not matter. The problem with Martin making such errors is that has he deliberately removes sentences from his writings to obscure his story, one finds it odd when the 'missing bit' is accidental.
Just think about the reams of (virtual) ink spent on the sentence from Ned about 'Jon, and Catelyn's children' (I think you know the one); one misplaced comma would be enough to turn RLJ on its head!
"Arya did not dare take a bath, even though she smelled as bad as Yoren by now, all sour and stinky. Some of the creatures living in her clothes had come all the way from Flea Bottom with her; it didn’t seem right to drown them."
The only thing I can contribute to this, since I'm way out of date with reading, is this...
Using the word "typo" for an omission is a pretty bad excuse - I don't know who coined it first, but a typo looks like thus, but an omission, such as bran not being acknowledged as entering or being at the feast, looks like this.
Kind of like gorge omitting the final books in the series...

i used the word 'typo' as a generic term for 'blunder' or in other words 'very bad proof-reading'.
That particular omission is somewhat unique considering the author had just written: 'The procession had passed not a foot from the place he had been given on the bench, and Jon had gotten a good long look at them all.'
i'd say either Jon or GRRM need some glasses. Or he could dispense with some bullshit excuse and admit he stuffed up.
Perhaps the question should be re-framed as such: 'how is is possible that Jon being less than a foot from the procession of 15 people AND having had a good long look at it, never saw Bran?'

the blue text is a typo indeed, but the red one? that is advanced senility!!

I've trimmed down this OP to remove a bit of fluff.
A robust writer of great depth and breadth, George Raymond Richard Martin is best known for his prolific Wild Cards series. I will be meeting GRRM at an event soon, and was wondering what a good question might be for him.
My own questions tend to be rather silly, and might even be considered rude. Hard to imagine, I know...
So, alas, I am coming to you for help.
Please write in your suggestions below!
Once we have a nice hefty amount of questions, I'll make a new poll listing the nominees. But first, we have to figure out what category of his work to ask him about. The new poll is listed above.
Question Nominees
The following is a list of (serious) questions that have been suggested in comments. I will add them to a new poll later this week. We'll plan on Saturday April 22, that should give everyone time to post their ideas for questions. Then we'll start the vote for the best question. Categories thus far:
Detractorish Question
Ask a question that incites a Nerd Riot (many nominees can be found in comments lol)
Is there any chance of releasing WoW & DoS simultaneously? (DarkSister1001 )
Is there a particular time of the day that you prefer to write? (DarkSister1001 )
Assuming that HBO’s GoT finishes the series before you finish writing it. How different will the ending between the show and books be? Will they basically be the same ending or has the show deviated far enough from your vision to give us two unique endings? (silentmajority )
Stark Question Nominees
Were the three shadows at the Trident 1. The Hound 2. Ser Barristan 3. Ser Ilyn? (voice )
Does Lyanna's statue have a direwolf at her feet, and, did it once have a wooden tourney sword? (danl )
Will Maege Mormont and Galbert Glover make a return to the story? (SerTarod )
Why was Bran missing from the royal procession into the WF hall; the one that Jon observed ever so carefully? was it 'just a typo'? (arrysfleas )
Regarding the polar opposites of Jon Snow and Sansa Stark: (cruciaremors )
How much of Sansa's Alayne Stone persona is influenced by her "half-brother"? She seems to think a bastard girl shouldn't be capable of dancing, a trait that is seen in Jon, for instance.
How will Jon's death affect his perceptions of his remaining family? He obviously feels very deeply for Arya and wants to rescue her from the perceived threat that is Ramsey, but what about the other siblings, Bran, Rickon and Sansa? And what about LSH? What would they think of each other should they meet again?
If Jon and Sansa were to meet again, how would their perception of each other be changed by their recent experiences (Jon as Lord Commander, Sansa as a bastard)?
7K Question Nominees
Did the silent sisters have a more major role than the common man suspects to play in replacing beliefs in the old gods? (puce )
They all die except Sansa who rules over a dying realm as the plebs starve to death after the ravages of the war, right? (puce )
When an Other is killed, does its ice sword melt along with it? (Maester Sam )
Is it possible for a human to wield an Other sword, and if so, any human or only particular bloodlines? (Maester Sam )
Can ice swords exist south of the Wall, or do they melt? (Maester Sam )
Are the Others capable of feeling joy or pleasure? Can they also feel emotional pain? Is someone somewhere grieving for Ser Puddles? (Maester Sam )
Do the Others have individual names? (Maester Sam )
Are Craster's son's used in the manufacturing of Others armor and/or weapons? (DarkSister1001 )
Mance Question Nominees
How old is Mance Rayder? Or, how old was he when he was picked up by the Night's Watch/how long ago was this? (Maester Sam )
Are there any other examples of wildling children being raised by the Watch? (Maester Sam )
When did Mance desert the Night's Watch? Was he on the Wall at all while BR was there? (Maester Sam )
Who taught Mance ("Mance" who wiped the floor with Jon, one of the Watch's best fighters) how to fight (and specifically, with a greatsword)? (Maester Sam )
Where was Ser Arthur Dayne hiding between the time Ned let him go, and the time he put on Mance's face, following the shadowcat incident that killed the real Mance? (Maester Sam )
Dragon Question Nominees
Will any more dragons (not Targs) hatch? (DarkSister1001 )
If I missed any just let me know and I'll add them.
Voice, thanks for the tag.
I notice however that you left the D&D rape festival question out?!?
how on earth are the sycophants going to have a sexy time (seeing slurm blush) at the meet if you don't raise this very valid point?
- Who would win in a fight, Robert Baratheon or Arthur Dayne? - Was Lyanna a virgin before she was kidnapped by Rhaegar? Was she one when Ned found her? - Where does Victarion rank among the current best fighters in Westoros? Or Essos considering he's there? - Who would win in a fight, Jon or Aegon? - How old was Arthur when he joined the KG? - Jaime mentions Barristan neglecting to have written down his victories in his White Book entry, specifically that he could've at least written down "a few tourney victories". Define a few, as it's 15 years worth that Barristan neglected. Where they only jousts or also melees? - Did Jaime fight in the Greyjoy Rebellion? - The show has given Jaime Widow's Wail for next season, as evidenced by the recently released promo photos. Any chance of Jaime wielding it in the books? He gave away Oathkeeper because it's size was too awkward for him, but Widow's Wail is slightly smaller as it was forged for Joffrey. - Robert wanted to enter the melee in AGOT, but was talked out of it because Barristan and Ned pointed out that nobody would try against their king. But how would Robert have actually done in that melee if they had tried and Robert had entered? - Mel claims that nobody in her order can interpret visions from R'hllor quite as accurately as she can. In ADWD, that same book where she thinks this, we are introduced to Moqorro and Benerro, who both seem to be extremely strong sorcerers through their displays of magic. Is Mel actually the best, or does she simply think she's the best? - How come Mance showed up in Winterfell not looking like Rattleshirt? Wasn't the ruby supposed to anchor the glamour and his slavery? Did he break Mel's magic? Or was it broken for him by someone or something? - Mance claimed he needed 6 young and pretty spearwives to save the fake Arya, which Jon agreed to. Mance then provided the names of 5 old/middleaged and ugly/average looking spearwives, and 1 young and pretty spearwife, which Jon did not know about as Mance got Dolorous to get them. Why did Mance lie to Jon, and what did he really need the spearwives for?
Your lordship lost a son at the Red Wedding. I lost four upon the Blackwater. And why? Because the Lannisters stole the throne. Go to King’s Landing and look on Tommen with your own eyes, if you doubt me. A blind man could see it. What does Stannis offer you? Vengeance. Vengeance for my sons and yours, for your husbands and your fathers and your brothers. Vengeance for your murdered lord, your murdered king, your butchered princes. Vengeance!
This is an important one: George, would you consider your novelization of GoT more accomplished than the one of Star Wars and would you be upset if the latter won the Hugo over yours?

George, would you consider your novelization of GoT more accomplished than the novelization of Star Wars, and, has D&D's rape of Sansa inspired you to up "your sex game"?
That's some pretty epic shade right there.
"I can see it. You have more of the north in you than your brothers."
so, is it a picture of Mummy rabbit making a pie, or of Mummy making a rabbit pie ? 😈
Or is it a horror scenario, with a reanimated Egyptian mummy killing a rabbit and baking it into a pie?
“In Qohor he is the Black Goat, in Yi Ti the Lion of Night, in Westeros the Stranger. All men must bow to him in the end, no matter if they worship the Seven or the Lord of Light, the Moon Mother or the Drowned God or the Great Shepherd. All mankind belongs to him... else somewhere in the world would be a folk who lived forever. Do you know of any folk who live forever?”
