I was the same WhiteWolf!!! I didn't want anybody to lose. And if I liked one thing in the "Inside the Ep" was that Weiss clearly states that's what they looked for. A main character vs main character where you feel uncomfortable because you cannot or don't want to choose a side. Yes, they completely skip the small folk thingy but then again, this specific battle was army vs army. I didn't see any commoners that were not soldiers there so I kind of understand why they do not think that's an issue. Maybe that's why Dany went for the convoy and respected Jon's advice. And Tyrion's implicitly. We will see how much of a choice Dany gives the opponent as I see she says: bend the knee or die in the promo.
The problem is, that's all the grain that was already bullied out of the smallfolk that Dany just burned. That means when Winter comes and she starts demanding more grain for supplying King's Landing the Reach won't have that grain and you're going to have to go back and bully those smallfolk yet again--forcing them likely to starve. That's the kind of things that spark riots and uprisings and peasant revolts in actual Medieval Europe.
As I was falling asleep yesterday, one thought kept nagging away at me. The Lannisters CANNOT have a standing army of 10,000. They just fucking can't. It's utterly impractical, ludicrously expensive and the actual antithesis of the idea of feudalism. 10,000 professional soldiers, all armed and armoured ?!?!? Someone is having a fucking giraffe.

If anyone would have had it, Tywin Lannister would have had it--anyone else in the Seven Kingdoms I would not have believed for an instant.
That said, yeah it's a few decades too soon for even the very beginnings of standing armies to come into play like they would for the 16th Century Renaissance.
Good God, I pretended I didn't see how boring you thought Feast was but this is too much! :lighbringer
Did you HAVE to remind us how Martin completely lost control of himself and wrote one chapter being high on meth or something?! I mean it's one chapter! It's a couple of pages, really. We should all pretend that never happened. Put it in a box and bury it deep in the cave of exposition and never let it out again!

A pox on both of them.
Damn right! A pox on both their houses!
To be honest it's getting too much for the show to get into these things. These belong in the "what was Aragorn tax policy" domain. I'm sure Martin would like to answer a possible situation like this in the future books. He may just have Dany borrow money from the IB if she's winning the war and import grain and meat from Essos. Since winter is coming to Westeros faster than the rest of the planet, no amount of bullying will make the crops grow or animals get fatter with no feed available. Even the Reach will probably be affected by the long winter.
Cersei, I'm not sure she'd give a damn about the small folk. She is also completely unprepared to take on the Others as she doesn't seem to believe any stories from the Wall and it will be too late by the time she wakes up from her power trip.

Darkstar will be the next Vulture King.
Craster has 19 daughters and there are 19 castles on the Wall, coincidence I think not!
I don't mind Stannis not finding the cave art (he really had no reason to be exploring these caves), but given that the COTF and First Men didn't build ships, I don't see how they could have gotten to Dragonstone in the first place. And if there had been COTF/people living there at the start of the Long Night, they never would have seen the Others since they apparently can't cross water. So yeah, there are some real problems with this scene. Luckily, I don't find it a very important scene, so I am only mildly annoyed.
Surely they have some means of crossing water, otherwise neither race could have met on the Isle of Faces; there's also the Ironborn, a pre-Andal culture who were already seafaring, so it's not as though traveling over water was unheard of. One might also note that Dragonstone could have been connected to the mainland before the Hammer of the Waters, depending on just how devastating the Hammer was.
Edit: Err, but I suppose the latter explanation wouldn't fit within the chronology of events.
In any case, the accessibility of the Isle of Faces, the Ironborn, and the Pirate Kings of the Three Sisters (already occupied before the coming of the Andals) and Skagos seem evidence enough that at least some of the First Men were building ships before the coming of the Andals.
Incidentally, the Skagosi are said to trade obsidian weaponry, and perform human sacrifice to the weirwood; at the least, this suggests that the FM had enough seafaring knowledge to reach Skagos and establish colonies, but the presence of weirwoods may also suggest that it was at one time (or even presently?) occupied by the CotF.

I don't know that any victor in war would offer a different choice to his/her defeated enemies. Robert pardoned Barristan, Varys etc, after they bent the knee and pledged their loyalty to him as the new king. It appears to be the normal way to deal with a defeated foe. There is another option, one that would help out Jon as well, but I don't know if Dany is familiar with the Westerosi custom of sending men to the Wall. Maybe Tyrion will think of it in time to save the last handful of Lannister men.
“In Qohor he is the Black Goat, in Yi Ti the Lion of Night, in Westeros the Stranger. All men must bow to him in the end, no matter if they worship the Seven or the Lord of Light, the Moon Mother or the Drowned God or the Great Shepherd. All mankind belongs to him... else somewhere in the world would be a folk who lived forever. Do you know of any folk who live forever?”
Hey guys, sorry been out. I need to rewatch the episodes again, had a hectic few weeks. The lady who was leading me her horse didn't tell me she WAS SELLING IT. I'm still waiting for my refund for this month. I went to greywaterwatcher's river house in August and totaled my car. Not my fault, it was T-Boned. So dealing with insurance was a bitch. I finally got my check and used it as a down payment for a BMW! Yay! She's Silver just like Dany's. Then, one week later some asshole scratched her in the garage. It's a $2,500 repair, and normally I'd just say fuck it, but I mean it's only a week. I'm calling a new claim, lol.
I liked Dany incinerating the armies though, but hated how short the episode was. Did Bronn or Dickson toss Jaime in the water? I have to rewatch.Rick noticed a cameo but I can't remember the name, Nick something. He was a Lannister soldier. I'm guessing Bronn will go back to Tyrion now he has no gold or castle...

Ackkkkk I love this. Jaime goes to the wall. Black is definitely not his color, but this would be so cool. Jaime and Ser Alister Thorne trading insults. Thorne calling him Lord Gold Shit. Maester Aemon having something snarky to say about the Kingslayer. Well maybe not snarky because the man really is kind, but Jaime might bring out the dark side. The possibilities are incredible. Too bad we no longer really have a wall story anymore. Drat those walking skeletons. I know that I am alone with this, but I just do not like the skeleton thing that much. I like the mystery of the Night's King and I like his sidekicks of fellow whatever they are, but the whole skeleton thing running around always makes me giggle. It is not just on Game of Thrones, I'm just not a skeleton walking around kind of girl. I know, I know. I'm totally on board with Dragons, warging, shadow binding, blood magic, three eyed ravens, and all sorts of crazy things, but herky-jerky skeletons just bring on the giggles.

I knew someone would splice this together. It's why my favorite part of this episode was Jaime charging at Dany, and why I think Dany is on the verge of becoming the Mad Queen. Can't wait for them to delve deeper into this! This episode was pretty awesome, not the best, but pretty fucking close...
