For about 1.5 years I've watched about all the videos of the Order, and browsed their comments. One frequent wish from many viewers is them doing a collab with Preston. As I wondered about a video they had promised and not delivered, I checked their Twitter. Lo and behold, there was a reason! They have lately been talking to Preston and Red Team Review and a collab between them is coming up soon, according to tweet from june 30.!
Just wanted to give folks a heads-up who are not following their Twitter, and planning on posting it here when it comes out. This is one I do look forward to! Having popcorn available might be a good idea!

Looks like fun. Promise me you'll bring the popcorn.
Darkstar will be the next Vulture King.
Craster has 19 daughters and there are 19 castles on the Wall, coincidence I think not!
Ok, so the collab is STILL not out... *sigh* but they ARE talking and a couple of things has been released now. It's not on the Order's YT, but with this thread going, I thought it best to post it here.
1. A preview of a talk between Carmine and Dave, the full thing is for Patreons only due to sensitive topic(s) coming up. I didn't find it that interesting, until the very last second of this... Holy Funking Shit!!! So I'll just post it for that one thing.
2. Preston and Carmine was to have another talk about Fire and Blood, but Carmine got sick, so Preston had the Order on instead. It was supposed to be about that book, but honestly they hardly touch upon it. It's more a casual talk between them on the whole story. So nothing groundbreaking, but definitely gives a glimps of good chemistry between the three of them. In that sense it sounds promising for the Collab That Was Promised.
While it wasn't what I initially was expecting, I still have to keep my promises. So here's all the popcorn you'll need!
They do have a live stream collaboration video out with LmL. I watched that several weeks ago. It was interesting in some ways, but I honestly expected a little bit of friction. They barely touched on parentage issues, which was part of what I would hope they would talk about, since OotGH pretty much started their theorizing with NAJ and most everything they do is built around that, while LmL is firmly in the RLJ category. I did once read a comment by LmL where he just was pretty much unwilling to even discuss Jon's parentage any more, because he could not see any logical possibility of Jon being anyone but the child of Prince Silverstring and the Maid of Blue Roses! Possibly they mutually agreed to avoid the subject all together?
I am looking forward to seeing what they and Preston might have to discuss! They both take the time to look at the text in different ways than many people do!
Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.

I saw that one too. They've had quite a few live streams with other people since this summer, and with those that are firmly RLJ'ers, it seems like they've agreed not to touch upon it.
Rawrist actually tried HARD earlier this year to get someone to discuss it on her channel, with her as moderator. And she basically knows "everyone" in the community. But, of course, no takers... RLigion indeed...
As I had heard that, I'm not surprised at all that the subject doesn't come up. While it would be interesting to see them tackle it, I'm also kinda tired of the whole thing. When I watch videos, I avoid the RLJ ones, and focus on other subjects and theories.
I have also heard LML not being willing to discuss it. IIRC, his argument is that he doesn't see the narrative sense in Jon not being a secret Targaryen prince. Which I find a bit odd, but he's welcome to have that view of course. As a late comer, reading the books after s6, I have the impression that many see it as 100% confirmed by the show, and I get the argument of this being the same in books and show. For me, it's the best RLJ argument, to be honest. Which I find kinda ironic. I also get how people are just done discussing it after so many years, as I am too to a degree after less than two years.
I am looking forward to seeing what they and Preston might have to discuss! They both take the time to look at the text in different ways than many people do!
Me too! I was really exited when they announced they were going to sit down together! And now it seems the ball is rolling, finally. I actually had a total" OH MY GOD! THERE IT IS!!!"-moment when I saw the thumbnail on YT yesterday. It turned out not to be what I expected, but I really enjoyed this one too. And I think it bodes well for when they get to the "real deal". Hopefully it will turn out to be several videos, as I suspect they might have lots to discuss.
As you say, they all look at the text differently, and I see them as breaths of fresh air. So combining the two will be really interesting, I think!
Not to mention, it seems like it will actually come before Winds... I had started to wonder...

I suppose at this point, people have really made up their minds and are tired of discussing it. I find it pretty interesting, but I am still trying to work through Game looking for clues. And I don't find hints just about Jon's parentage in the text, but it seems like several other of our characters, as well. I might be seeing stuff where nothing exists, at this point... parentage soup colored glasses...

Yes, many people use the show/books "must be the same" as confirmation, and that is fine, I guess. But what really threw me into a bit of a tailspin at the end of Season 6 was the really poor, vague way the show went about things. Then that odd infographic that popped up a couple weeks later. What? The show's oddness was one of the reasons I decided to take a much more thorough look at the parentage hints of Jon Snow. My mind certainly doesn't work like many others, but I do find it odd that the thing that seemed like confirmation for so many people was the same thing that triggered a great deal of doubt in my head. Of course, some of this might just be D&D basically taking the reins in Season 6 (I think GRRM ducked out at the end of season 5 as directly inputting information into the scripts/show etc). Looking at their storytelling in Season 7 just really convinced me they either did not care any longer, or they were just not nearly as good at their jobs as people had given them credit for! So maybe I should not put so much doubt into their toj scene...

Hahaha! I get how you can be so excited about something! That is how I felt when Fire and Blood was delivered to my house, and I wasn't even that excited when I ordered it. If The Winds of Winter ever arrives on my doorstep, my neighbors better be prepared for screaming and dancing and strange shadows coming from my house, perhaps similar to MMD's tent magic! No animals will be harmed, I promise!
As you say, they all look at the text differently, and I see them as breaths of fresh air. So combining the two will be really interesting, I think!
One thing that I have noticed with any of these collaborations is that everyone seems to turn their snark meter down. Or just avoid certain subjects all together, which I find a little disappointing, honestly! I don't want a fist fight, but at least discuss stuff in the manner you do in your videos, which is the tone that has made your video's popular! It's like expecting a good red wine and getting water instead...
Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.

I know and perfectly understand people making up their minds and are a bit tired of the subject after up to 20 years. I think my own perspective is a bit colored of that as well, as for the most part I've looked at more recent discussions which are clearly show much "wear and tear" of long years on the subject.
My problem starts with the reaction the Order got when they started up, all the vitriol. If they have made up their minds, why react in that way? And then refuse to take the discussion when invited. I just don't see the problem with others having a differing opinion. But that is a curse in our times...
I still want to make up my own mind with what I find in the books, but I've had to take a long break from the soup. I found myself getting more confused and doubting everything I saw, and it ended up more as a chore. Then it's time to focus on something else! I will get back to it, but not this year I think. And now I'm busy bathing in Fire and Blood!

Gods, now I almost ended up in a very long rant... But I won't subject you nor me to that!
I have no idea of what D&D are doing! I've given up the show completely. I still haven't watched all of s7, not sure I ever will or see s8 based on the dismal thing I saw of s7. Mayhaps I one day will bother to get the first seasons only, if I see it to a low enough prize that is.
So as you see, I have no inclination to "analyze" what they are up to, why they do what they do, etc. One would expect the show and books to have the same answer to this, that is pure logic and experience from other adaptations. It's not based on how D&D pulled it off (or not ). When I read the books for the first time, I was really expecting the clues to be more obvious, but that isn't now Martin works. So for me that argument purely boils down to "show adaptations are always true to the bigger mysteries in the original books". The flipside of that is that the books aren't finished yet, and if "all" the big mysteries are revealed in the show it can put off potential readers. It almost stopped me from reading the books, at least. Why read anything when I know all the answers? In fact, coming across the Order's videos was the biggest reason I changed my mind and got them. As they showed me that the story isn't as clear cut as the other things I came across.

I had a huge, audible intake of breath, and I suspect my hands flapped a bit...
I did NOT scream, though! Hand on heart! Also, it was 4 AM and I'd only had a couple of sips of morning coffee when I saw it.
Haha, I totally get your reaction to getting the book! When in line at the store buying Fire and Blood, I would have stood there bouncing if I'd had the energy. I was dead on my feet... (Mayhaps to the unknown relief of my fellow customers...) A friend of mine works there, and I pestered her to learn if they'd take it in or not (I live in a small place, and their English section is horribly small!) on the release date for weeks. For Winds, I'll probably stand bouncing outside before they open up! (As I like physical stores - I've found so much interesting books etc by just browsing in stores which I would never have found online - I try to support them with buying there.)

Well, that depends on who is on imo. To be fair, I haven't come across many "real" YT discussions on the books, just snippets here and there before they move on. From those and discussions on unrelated subjects, at times they devolve into a shouting match. Not necessarily due to strong disagreement, but some have a tendency to want to "win" by shouting loudest. I prefer something more calm.
Another thing with what you miss, is that I think many tend to choose collabs with people they agree with in the first place. Or perhaps they've tested the waters beforehand and choosing "safer" pastures? I don't know.
I would like to see something well prepared with well thought-out arguments, and that requires having the subject firmly in the mind and notes on the side. And as I can have a bit high standards, I also want a flowing discussion. I try not to set my hopes to high, as I think it would be interesting anyway. Better to be pleasantly surprised, I think.

Some people are very protective of RLJ. And many people have banked on it for so many years now, I suppose it's hard to see any other possibility. I think for the many diehard RLJ fans, that if they admit that might not be correct, or that there is a different possibility, then they might feel as if GRRM has fooled them in some way. Now, I have no problem being fooled by a great plot, I am actually rather thrilled with the concept. Usually I see plot twists with most stories (not all), and while that can give a person satisfaction, I love the concept of there being something different, something unexpected. However, I think that many people can't even fathom being "fooled" at this point. And honestly, they might not be. RLJ might be correct, and then I will realize I was looking to hard at it for years, since my initial read of Game (and then my first time through the series) directed me strongly toward the concept of RLJ, even though it's very vague. Vague, but not subtle, is how I see it. I still see the possibilities for it! I just have not felt like that is the direction the story will take for several years now!
I think some of the reaction that the OotGH was very like I have seen over the years for ideas or concepts that don't fit the majority. And they sometimes responded with snark and sarcasm as well, which just makes both sides edgy. Their initial theories also present the idea that they believe people who do favor RLJ are blind to the truth or have been fooled, and they were not shy in saying so, which can ruffle some feathers from the start. Saying perhaps "we see how people might have been mislead but..." instead of "we can't believe that people ever bought this concept" would have been a perhaps better way not to ruffle feathers. And the sides became like two caged dog's fighting! So I think a little of that attitude contributes to the the sometimes harsh feelings on both sides. Also, perhaps the idea that they put forward of NAJ being "their" theory. It's not original to them, it's been around for years. They just happen to favor it, and then presented it on a broad, video platform! I do very much appreciate how they rattled the foundation of RLJ, however!

I never felt like it was a chore, but I totally get what you are saying about being more confused and full of doubt than when I started. The more intense the scrutiny, the more possibilities turned up. And now it's not just Jon and Dany that I question, it's many characters parentage. So, it has almost become like a virus of doubt that has infected me. Sometimes it would be easier not to question the general consensus at all!
I did NOT scream, though! Hand on heart! Also, it was 4 AM and I'd only had a couple of sips of morning coffee when I saw it.

I live in a very rural area, and I would say the closest book store that would have physically carried it would be around 275 miles, or 5ish hours, away. So Amazon has become my staple for the purchase of many books. But when I get out of town, I love to go to book stores. I could spend hours inside Barnes and Noble! Music, coffee, comfortable chairs, books and magazines for miles, it seems! Gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling!

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see a silly argument that devolves to name calling, but it sometimes feels almost sugary sweet and fake when people are on such good behavior. Especially when normally a person see's a different, somewhat blunt, attitude presented. I don't watch many livestreams (a fault of my wandering attention for things over 25 minutes, I suppose), but I will say the ones I have seen with Preston Jacobs tend to feel like he is not afraid to state an unpopular opinion, although he does it very politely!
I do agree that people collaborate with like-minded people for the most part. I suppose it's just easier that way! Conflict can feel very uncomfortable!
Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.

Oh, for sure! Also, it's a more general tendency these days that people making their stand very firmly (and some times aggressively) so I won't rule out this influencing as well. I see that in all manners of discussions on many topics. The art of discussing, and respect for differing oppinions are sorely lacking these days, I think.
For many years I had crime novels as my go-to genre, but for the last years I started to see the culprit by the time the cast had been introduced at the latest. Now it's been few crime novels as it got boring. So in that sense, I find Martin refreshing. IIRC his mother always spotted culprits in crime stories as well, and it's something he takes into consideration. It might still be possible he'll be going for RLJ, but honestly I hope not. I would like something different. Time will (hopefully) tell!
The part of how vague but not subtle RLJ is, reminded me of some musings I've been having on and off during our reread. I don't think I posted it anywhere, but I will see if I can find the right thread for that.

Oh, I do see how their tone help antagonize the opposition and how the situation came about. I just find it a bit odd that after all this time the bare mention of them makes some people scream to this day. I always think reactions like that is a bit odd, no matter the subject.
As for them putting NAJ out as their original theory; I didn't take it that way. Perhaps that is because I saw that before I jumped on the train. In any case, I took it more as "after reading the books, this is how we see the question of Jon's parents" kind of thing. I don't know how much they searched for theories that matched their own, or how easily available they were when they first started out. If they hadn't found any, that might explain that one. Not everybody has been in the community for years, nor spend much time searching for theories if practically all they find revolves around a single theory. But of course I can't say what they did or didn't do before starting their channel. Though Dave has said their first videos were made without a script, so he was basically shooting from his hip there. That too might have something to do with how it was phrased.
I agree with how they rattled the community though!

Haha, just to myself as my mind started straying to other topics!
It's easier to not question things, but I do suspect some from that field might be in for a surprise or two! If Martin's reputation proves to be true in this story as well. I will freely admit RLJ might not be in the surprise category destpite my wishes and suspicions. I've mainly kept it to the main cast, but pointing out where I find dissenting arguments for minor characters where I find them, like with Renly. I have found some more interesting details that might point to Dunk in our main story in the later books, which was satisfying!
I guess some of my "problem" was that I was that I saw so many non-parental things in every chapter, that I became a bit overwhelmed. Not to mention my ability to REALLY go with a line of thought, and then needing to get myself back on some sort of line (not necessarily on the narrow line) as go too far.
I was so excited when I came, I had to show my dog. She pretended to be excited, but I don't really think she cared that much! The cat's didn't even pretend to care!
Hahaha! Glad it's not just me!
At least your dog TRIED to join your excitement! Cats, on the other hand, will be cats. Luna would have reacted, but not because she would care about the video. Only because she would have lain on a moving bed, AKA my lap... And that cannot be accepted!

Oh, wow! That IS isolated! Amazon and the likes becomes very necessary with distances like that! While we have long distances in my parts as well, those you have in the states are on another level compared to ours. It's easy to forget that!
If I ever make it back to London, I want to spend a day (at least) in this HUGE bookstore they have there. Don't remember the name right now, but they have many many floors. Problem would be to make my way out again... Mayhaps I would be trapped for days on end!

I get what you're saying. Unfortunately discussions like that seems to be few and far between, at least of what I have found.
Preston is good at that! I think he travels a lot in his line of work, so that is something he would have to learn in that case. Seems to me that many get used to discussing in their own "environment" so to speak, but when in another culture the game board changes and you have to adapt.
And I am curious about what they will discuss and how that will turn out. I think Dave and Mary Ellen would do well with him also on more controversial subjects, as I think they can do "his type" of discussion if they want to without going all sugary and sweet. At least I hope so.
I do agree that people collaborate with like-minded people for the most part. I suppose it's just easier that way! Conflict can feel very uncomfortable!
Yup! Again I return to the general tendency these days, where people don't really learn to have discussions with differing POVs anymore. Any stream lining in other areas of our lives (political etc) will also affect other areas.

I understand what you are saying. Anytime you go through the text, things are going to come to your attention, whether we plan to focus only on a certain theme. That is why I rarely could stick to "just parentage" in my comments. But we know I am a derailer from way back...
Speaking of parentage, I am hoping to cast some attention back to the chapter reread, but probably not until after the new year. I hope we could go through all the chapters before Winds comes out, which I am hoping for in the fall of 2019, although I might be having a "sweet summer child moment" with that hope!
If I ever make it back to London, I want to spend a day (at least) in this HUGE bookstore they have there. Don't remember the name right now, but they have many many floors. Problem would be to make my way out again... Mayhaps I would be trapped for days on end!
I could think of many worse places to be lost for days and days. A book store, if it had coffee, would be pretty ideal!
Oh, wow! That IS isolated! Amazon and the likes becomes very necessary with distances like that! While we have long distances in my parts as well, those you have in the states are on another level compared to ours. It's easy to forget that!
Sometimes it's very nice to be so isolated, although when you have to drive 5 hours to catch a plane (we do have a puddle jumper that comes in, but I am no fan of 7-seater planes), it is sometimes irritating! There is good and bad in everything, I suppose! And it's not like there are not people here, but it is reverting back to the mail order society it was at the turn of turn of the 20th century, when this country was just being settled by people from more populated areas and the only way a person could get stuff here was by railroad or steam ship. At least we have planes and trucks now, so that helps speed up deliveries!
Yup! Again I return to the general tendency these days, where people don't really learn to have discussions with differing POVs anymore. Any stream lining in other areas of our lives (political etc) will also affect other areas.
Very true about the bolded comment. For the most part, people tend to get offended with differing opinions, react with anger or disgust, then walk away, rather than discuss and try to understand the other perspective!
Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.

Haha, as I am a notable derailer myself, I won't fault you on that! Just promise me we'll never EVER get on an elevator together!
Speaking of parentage, I am hoping to cast some attention back to the chapter reread, but probably not until after the new year. I hope we could go through all the chapters before Winds comes out, which I am hoping for in the fall of 2019, although I might be having a "sweet summer child moment" with that hope!
I might be willing to take it up again in a little while. Have to work through F&B a bit more first. And as I have replaced my old Game book now, the glue of the spine of the old one failed, I can read without worrying about my book falling into pieces! I did find a box of bookbinders glue just before Christmas, but actually that cost more than a new book and was way more than I needed!
As for Winds coming in the latter half of 2019, you're not the only one that is hopeful for that!
Ah, I have a long-term plan to get to a less crowded area, hopefully not too long into the future. While I don't live in a city anymore, the general area around the closest city is mushrooming and it's absolutely horrible! I prefer to live where there is some air around me, and that is rapidly shrinking here...
I can relate somewhat to having long distances. I spent a year in another part of the country, and usually took a plane when visiting at home. But one time I decided to take the train, which meant taking two buses to get to the train, then change train once, then taking tram, ferry and bus to get all the way home! As that was a weekend visit, I only had time to eat dinner, sleep and talk a bit the next morning before I had to leave again... I continued to catch a plane the other times...
Very true about the bolded comment. For the most part, people tend to get offended with differing opinions, react with anger or disgust, then walk away, rather than discuss and try to understand the other perspective!
*sigh* The curse of the modern western world it seems. For better or worse, our world has been radically changed over the last few decades, and this is one of the bad things. An unfortunate combination of not the best parenting (to be very honest) and a dismal school system, I think. Hopefully some changes will come to rectify this, and I hope it will be sooner rather than later...

That sounds like complicated travel, and time consuming. It's a matter of what you get used to, I suppose, but having to take to take several different modes of transportation almost makes me want to cry! And sometimes you spend so much time traveling, that you lose a lot of quality time you want to spend with people, which is frustrating!

I actually planned to start yesterday, but spent New Years Day watching movies and generally being unproductive in any way.

Haha, complicated to say the least! Unless I only travel for a very short visit somewhere, I hate flying shorter distances under a couple of hours. Mainly due to the security being tightened on inland flights as well. Before that it was no hassle at all, unlike now. I did live a few years in a third part of the country, and preferred to take a 7 hour long train ride home for holidays. Relaxing, beautiful nature, and time to just take a breath! As those usually lasted more than a weekend or a couple of days (then I took a plane), I didn't feel the hassle was worth it.
Gosh, I really, really hope so! But I am trying to not get too hopeful!!!
Well, I've never thought Winds would be released before the show is over in any case, so I never expected that. So while I want the end of the story (moreover, I want it ALL!!! Yes, I'm greedy...) I also want time to dig into the text before everything (?) is revealed. There are some advantages to being the latecomer!
