Deserving it does not come into the question. If you can get it, and then hold it, it's yours. If not, you have to fight or back down.
And the theory goes that his advice has been so asinine to bleed Dany and Cersei off fighting each other, until he is left to take it himself.
Not saying I buy into that, but at least it would explain why Tyrion has become so utterly stupid since leaving King's Landing. And it would be kinda funny!
I don't really care who sits the throne in the end, except Cersei who should be removed. I'm quite like the smallfolk in these matters. And as I can't follow D&Ds thinking I don't even try to guess.
"Deserving it does not come into the question. If you can get it, and then hold it, it's yours. If not, you have to fight or back down." is exactly what Cersei is doing. It doesn't seem like the small folk mind Cersei as their queen, so she might as well keep the throne. We have seen no one complaining.
You are correct about deserving it. Probably half of the Targaryen monarchs didn't deserve their crown, but managed to hold on, because of Status Quo. Sometimes it's hard to imagine an Iron Throne at the end of this thing. Right now, I would not be surprised if Gendry is sitting the throne, and by gosh, he has no idea how to be a lord, let alone a king.
If this is some plot by Tyrion, it would honestly surprise me, since he seems so stupid these days, but he certainly has cost Dany a major part of her force and given her some poor advice! She might has well as just rolled over Kings Landing like she did Yunkai and Meereen and pick the pieces up later.
The final episode sounds like Dave and Dan's baby. They wrote 4 of the episodes this season, I think, but the final is the only one they are directing. It's probably going to be a cluster, but if there are major shocks/reveals from the author, it's probably going to be in that episode.
I expect this episode to be another battle ripped off from (err, inspired by) the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.
