Yeah I struggle with the whole 'pulling down the tower' aspect. It makes me think of something more like a wooden lookout structure, like they use in hunting.
but I do like Voice's pile of stones! It's technically a tower! I could pull that bastard down!

...and build a few cairns. One does not simply pull down a honeymoon resort to mark some graves.

It seems that Dayne's demise is essentially confirmed; Howland gets him from behind while he's tackling Ned.
So, that's pretty straightfoward. It makes me think maybe everything will be straightforward, no intrigue anywhere. Jon is in the tower, he's the rightful 'king' and they're protecting him; Rhaegar and Lyanna were in love; Jon is a Targaryen; we all figured it out years ago. R+L=J4eva.
I'm so deflated. I hope it's not going to end up so straightforward.
Agree completely.....I speculated that it would be Starfall and not TOJ several months ago when the location was first announced, due to size and ocean backdrop, etc. But, apparently it's confirmed TOJ. ::frustrated:: Although really, TOJ could be near Starfall and we readers simply don't know that yet.
Or, HBO could just be plowing ahead with fanfic theory and doing whatever the heck they want, and readers won't know until GRRM finishes nursing his Puppygate grudge/sees his teams knocked out of the playoffs/commissions a few more murals/wraps up 9 or 10 side projects and pumps out TWOW.
Also, is Eddie Eyre (slated to play 'Alfred Hunrith') playing Arthur Dayne? Or a character like Dayne?
Gods, if they change his name like they did JeyneTalisa, then does it mean Dayne is unimportant?
I.... I have to sit down for a bit.
Deep breaths. Think happy thoughts. Do you need me to get you a paper bag?
Okay--all good. I really think this is all to be expected. If Dayne were unimportant, why would the casting listing be what is was (legendary swordsman with famous sword)? Besides, if I remember correctly, Jaime already mentioned Dayne on the show.
As to the things in your spoiler (quick quotes won't allow me to quote it)--just because the fight is like that does NOT mean R+L=J. If anything, the fact that they haven't cast a Rhaegar for a flashback strikes me as telling. Doing everything at the tower or at Starfall instead of two places makes a lot of sense for filming. And daddy issues--can't see why on earth anything in that footage determines parentage. Not yet, anyway.

Or, as I said to RJU, could just be that they are simplifying things. No way they can pretend either or those buildings can be torn down by two men for cairns. Doing everything at one locale limits expense, tightens the narrative--and freaks out book readers. Win, win, win.
All art is at once surface and symbol. Those who go beneath the surface do so at their peril. Those who read the symbol do so at their peril. It is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors. Oscar Wilde.
I gotta say though, that second TOJ video... I really hope that's not what makes it to the show. Arthur Dayne cutting down men within seconds is good. Arthur Dayne furiously dueling Ned Stark one on one for a good length of time is also good. Howland Reed being nowhere for ANY of this, and just coming up behind Arthur and stabbing him in the back is not.
It's always been a possibility that Howland stabbed Arthur in the back, but Howland was ALWAYS in the fight. Most assume that if he stabbed Arthur in the back it's because he either just finished his own opponent and moved over to help Ned with his, or he was always fighting Arthur with Ned. If he stabs him then then it's okay. If he just comes out of nowhere after having not been seen for like a minute, or even at all, then that's just bad directing and storytelling.
Your lordship lost a son at the Red Wedding. I lost four upon the Blackwater. And why? Because the Lannisters stole the throne. Go to King’s Landing and look on Tommen with your own eyes, if you doubt me. A blind man could see it. What does Stannis offer you? Vengeance. Vengeance for my sons and yours, for your husbands and your fathers and your brothers. Vengeance for your murdered lord, your murdered king, your butchered princes. Vengeance!
I can't access WotW from work so haven't seen any new photos that are more telling.
My mistake, didn't realize that WOTW updated their report and struck that information.

It is bad, but maybe it is meant to be morally bad. Mayhaps, if it ends up being canon someday, Ned wasn't always "honorable". He certainly has some old regrets.
Just to overreact and prematurely react and interpret this shaky footage... I wonder if the Red Wedding could have been a karmic in/justice, for the in/justice of Ned's victory over Dayne...

The thought of the TOJ scene being remininscent of an earlier scene and being karmic justice got me thinking as this video actually rather ties back extremely well to Ned vs Jaime way back in season 1.
If you recall, the Lord of Winterfell was accosted by Jaime Lannister, a KG who was one of the finest swords in the realm, over an innocent sibling who'd been taken. Which parallels Ned arriving at the TOJ for Lyanna, only to find Arthur Dayne, a KG who was one of the finest swords in the realm. In Jaime vs Ned, Jaime kills one of Ned's men within 3 blows when the battle brings them together. That man just so happened to be Jory Cassel. Perhaps the man Arthur kills within 3 blows in the video is Jory's father Martyn Cassel. As occurred before, so it comes to pass again. The duel then switches to Ned and Jaime in Ned vs Jaime, and was seemingly evenly matched between the two. Just like the video of Ned vs Arthur being seemingly fairly even. Then guard #14 who had previously done nothing the whole time walks up behind Ned and stabs him in the leg in Ned vs Jaime. Just as Howland sneaks up behind Arthur and stabs Arthur in the back in Ned vs Arthur. The scenes are quite similar just from what the video shows.
Too bad the show fucked up all the symmetry by making Jaime Barristan's squire and making Barristan his idol as otherwise I'd almost be willing to congratulate them on (at least seemingly from these early shots and my premature predictions) showcasing the parallels that exist in the book between the brothel fight and the TOJ scene.

- Ned is fighting another KG, while Howland and a few others take on Arthur - Arthur makes quick work of some, while Ned kills whoever he is fighting - Just as Arthur is about to kill an injured Howland, Ned joins that fight - Just as Arthur is about to kill Ned, Howland recovers from his wound or whatever, and kills Arthur
It's all a bit 'Lame Action Movie' but it works.. .a bit. I'd just hate for this thing that's been waiting 20 years for a denouement ends up being so .. lame?
