She was examined by the Faith and declared not intact. So unless the Faith are lying (and somehow I don't think they are), Margaery is not a maiden.

Yes, Cersei thought of that, but in a different light. She hoped that frequent riding might have affected Margaery in such a way that she would be deemed 'intact' upon examination. I recall no one else thinking about it, at least among those related to the trial.

It's a curious question: would Margaery be able to legitimately build her defense at her trial on the basis of riding? Would the Faith and the High Sparrow be satisfied with such an explanation? With the armies of Randyll Tarly and Mace Tyrell at the gates, perhaps why not? Then Cersei's scheme would have backfired especially hilariously.



I think it might well have been Renly. I imagine everyone realized they needed to produce an heir, so brother's lover or not, "sorry, Loras, we just have to". And when things went south with the whole Renly-King thing - moon tea (if required) and pretend this never happened. "Of course, King Joffrey, our Margaery is the purest virgin, we swear it!" Because what, are the Lannisters going to examine her? That would seem teeth-counting, I think. Joffrey wasn't supposed to live long enough for bedding from the very moment the Tyrells agreed to the alliance, and Tommen wouldn't notice anything when the time came for them to consummate their marriage, which was not for some years. Nobody just anticipated Cersei would make such a dirty move, so everything seemed safe.
