Thanks, I'll have a look and give you feedback; I was telling @treyman16 while I was at work to get an avatar, but looks like he didn't follow up as promised. So I'll read this before I follow up on the Coldhands =/= Benjen for him
But Trey, I'm telling the truth. It was a tough blow for us who were hoping to finally get closure on the Benjen story. I have a feeling Benjen's disappearance may remain a mystery. IRL, sometimes people do just seem to vanish, and you never find a trace. Law of the Jungle/School of Hardknocks or something. Sucks, but I could see this happening.

Avatar pic picked! With so many characters, some are bound to get the shaft/never get an explanation for their fate. Maybe that's what happens to Benjen, but I really doubt that happens to Blackfish. Even his name is badass!

Nice avatar!
Blackfish will definitely be back. Who said he might be meeting up with BWB? Was that you or someone else?
It was discussed somewhere that Tom 7 Strings has been at Riverrun and probably delivered a message to Blackfish. I might have read this on Reddit, actually. But the theory was how he had been probably warned about something more important he needed to attend to.
Imma expand on this and say perhaps Tom told Blackfish about Lady Stoneheart, and he's gone to see his niece for himself.
I really need to finish my Storm reread, or maybe I should just start over. Let me know if you're up for a GoT reread and we can discuss like a mini book club at the bar like cool kids, although I've been working almost every night. I'm going to hunt down the Coldhands stuff shortly.

Ahem... Are you perhaps referring to my post on page one of this thread?

I'm pretty sure the Blackfish is with the BwB, or about to join them.
He held Riverrun under siege for a year, under constant threat to Edmure's life, but then he suddenly surrendered the castle after one night's talk with Edmure. We could argue Edmure had compelling reasons to advise surrender because of Jaime's threats to his unborn child, but would it matter to Brynden? Something more important happened, however, which I think definitely changed Brynden's mind. Jaime unknowingly left Edmure alone with Tom of Sevenstreams for a while, and Tom certainly told Edmure something which he later passed to the Blackfish.
So, one day Blackfish stubbornly holds the castle with no chance to win, seemingly out of sheer spite, and the following night he suddenly disappears. It's as if he has been informed that something important is going on elsewhere, something more important than holding Riverrun.
Maybe he even was already in touch with the Brotherhood, and Jaime just gave them a convenient way to communicate a message like "it's time". In general, Tom's presence at Riverrun is of enormous importance, I believe. We all know it was he who tipped the BwB off about ser Ryman's departure to the Twins, which resulted in the latter's execution and retrieval of Robb's crown (which, by the way, Jaime had ordered ser Ryman to leave behind, did Frey just disobey the order?). But could he also communicate with the river lords, unwillingly participating in the siege? Remember how Karyl Vance told Jaime that Tytos Blackwood would surrender Raventree Hall to him personally? This led to Jaime traveling to Raventree, and there, in Blackwood lands, he was found by Brienne, as ordered by Lady Stoneheart. Convenient, isn't it?
What exactly is the Blackfish currently up to, I couldn't say. Probably he's going to free Edmure on the way to Casterly Rock. Or there's some other work for him to do. But I am absolutely convinced it has something to do with the BwB/Lady Stoneheart.
@treyman16, forget everything I said and read Gwindor's post above. Apparently it was stuck in my subconscious so bad I even thought meeting up with Lady Stoneheart was my idea. I think Gwindor skinchanged into me or something.

Good stuff! Esp that Hooded Man essay. I need to reread ADWD again (reread like 200 pages last year before I got distracted). Rereading AFFC now
The one good thing about Feast is the Cersei chapters. Gawd i lurve to hate her!

Ahhh, i'm not a big fan of Cersei chapters. She seems too one dimensionally-evil. Better than Sam chapters, though
That's why I love reading it! She's a horrible human being. It's like watching a train wreck!

Okay so the The Prince that was Promised thing still doesn't make a lot of sense to me. When was this prophecy supposed to have been made?
It seems to be old and using non-modern language, but it can't have come from pre-Doom Valyria because they didn't have Princes or Princesses right? IIRC, They had a bunch of ruling families that all jockeyed for power and the Targaryen's weren't even one of the powerful houses.
So it would seem it was made post-doom, after Aegon's conquest when he became a king and the Targaryens were the royal family. So why does Aemon talk about a translation error? The Targaryn westeros rule hasn't been that long that the prophecy is made and then, somehow, it's meaning is obscured by time???? Even though the Targaryn's are the one in power and would have ample opportunity and ability to transcribe and analyze it.
