I was thinking the whole "Sword of the Morning" vs "Sword of the Evening" after listening to History of Westeros part 2 episode on House Dayne.
There are only three known SotM: Davos, Ulrick, and Arthur. Interesting to note that all of these are after Nymeria's Wars of Dornish Unification. Davos of course being one of the husbands of Nymeria. He gave her a son that followed him as Lord of Starfall.
Vorian Dayne was the last King of the Torrentine. He was the finest knight in Dorne and known as the "Sword of the Evening." This makes sense considering Dayne's are associated with stars which first come out in the evening. They're sigil of course is a falling star, a white sword on lilac.
Vorian Dayne was among the six kings of Dorne that was sent to the Wall by Nymeria. What we don't know is what the connection between Vorian the last King and Davos the first Lord and husband to Nymeria. What I wonder is this: What if the Kingly house of Dayne lost their seat and a lesser branch was raised to Lordship. Similar things happened to the Tully's and Tyrell's in Aegon's Conquest.
Davos Dayne could have been on the lesser branch of Dayne and was raised up to the Lord of Starfall and it would be his lineage with Nymeria that would rule. The once kingly branch of Vorian would be removed to High Hermitage and be reverted to a knightly house. This would explain several things.
The symbol of Nymeria was of course the Sun, which when combined with the Spear of House Martell became the new sigil of the House. The new lordly line would renamed their heroes the "Sword of the Morning" due to their lineage with Nymeria and submission to the new ruling house Martell. This explains why Darkstar is so annoyed at Arthur Dayne and the "Sword of the Morning." House Dayne goes back thousands of years to the Dawn of Days but people only seem to remember the last 1000 since Nymeria's conquest. Also understanding that his line was the true line of Dayne kings would be make anyone resentful.
Lots of speculating here but its an interesting concept. What does everyone think? What are your thoughts on what the "Sword of the Evening" could mean?
