GURM has no right to bitch about D&D, writing, making money. HebSOLD his rights to produce...fan fiction!!
Steven King learned his lesson with the shining (though i liked Jack Nicholson), but now he produced all works made to film to portray his art the best way (look at Shawshank)
I beg to differ that King knows best how to adapt his stories to film. Maximum Overdrive (1986) is proof of that enough (when he took the director's chair). While some of his stories translated how he sees them work (Shawshank, Misery), others just become unintentionally goofy or outright campy. I think a lot of King's stories are better suited to the written word than the film screen, though there are a few who are exceptions to that.
Interestingly, King has time for Under the Dome, 11.22.63, among other things, and I'm not saying his early work, but his writing has really improved. He does short stories well (Shawshank), and the novel 11.22.63 shows he can write great books- not all about horror. Oh, I never read it, but The Stand. He has a series too. But despite all of this, he still churns out a good novel every 1-2 yrs.
I read The Stand in 8th grade after seeing part of the made-for-tv special that was underwhelming but interesting--I loved it. I tried getting into other King novels after it, and just couldn't get into them... but perhaps that might have been because the next one picked up was The Deerslayer.
In any case, Stephen King is IMO a better novel and short story writer than a film maker.
