This post is full of MS&T spoilers.
So GRRM had said at an event that Tad Williams' books inspired ASOIAF
src : www.tadwilliams.com/2011/09/transcript-an-evening-with-grrm/
Both the books are in a fantasy medieval setting, with interwoven first person narratives
here is a list of similarities : ostenard.com/2014/06/16/25-similarities-between-a-song-of-ice-and-fire-and-memory-sorrow-and-thorn/
and some more I have to add
The Red Priests and Fire Dancers
Ser Florian the Fool and Sir Fluiran The Fool
The Kingsroad
Varys and Pyrates are both eunuchs who whisper in a "Mad King"'s ears
There are tunnels below the Hayholt and Kings Landing
Thorn is made from a metorite, and so is Dawn
Sidhe made of ice and norns
Description of the armour of the others and the armour of the Sithi
There is a cat in these tunnels
A character is called "the dragon". Rachel, and Viserys.
Night's King and Storm King records erased because of unspeakable evil.
True Knights are discussed, difference between being Knighted and behaving like one
The Hound and Injen Jegger
Varamyr's botched warging, and Utuk'ku forcing herself into Injen Jegger's mind
There are lost manuscripts in both
Birds are used for sending messages
Weirwood trees and Witchwood trees
The art of forging some swords is known only to a few. Valyrian swordsmiths and Dwarrows.
There is a peach incident with a maddeningly elusive meaning
Dragon Skulls in Hayholt and King's Landing
There is a powerful horn with strange glyphs of some unknown purpose and significance in both works
cradle songs / crib tales
Witness objects and Glass Candles
the conqueror's star, or a bleeding comet in the sky
Aedonite faith and the Faith of the Seven are like in universe Christianity
Wrannmen and Crannogmen, both are short, one spear frogs, the other spear crabs
so, some predictions based on MS&T
GRRM has said the Others are Sidhe made of ice
src : awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Others#cite_ref-10
which leads me to believe there could be Sidhe made of elements other than ice, or at least Sidhe not made of ice. In MS&T there are Norns, who are cold Sithis dealing with dead and undead magics. The Sithis are fair folk, like elves who fight on the side of humans, and who have been fighting with the Norns themselves.
Prediction 1> there might be other others.
The hound in the series, Injen Jegger is forcefully "skinchanged" into by a dark warg queen. It is horrible and broke his mind. Imagine Varamyr's botched attempt, but he gains control of the human. Warging into humans hasn't happened successfully and obviously yet, and I think it will.
Prediction 2 > Euron will skinchange into the Hound
Then there is a prophecy, which is read wrong by everyone. There are three swords, that come together to form some kind of deathly hallows that prevent the dark lord from ever dying again.
Bright Nail or Memory - contains a nail from the tree where in universe Jesus was nailed to, and a finger bone of a saint
Jingizu or Sorrow - made from witchwood and iron (is their a weirwood sword in asoiaf?)
Thorn - this seems to be Dawn, both were made from the metal of a fallen star
so one of these swords is Dawn, one seems to be Lightbringer, don't know about the third. They come together to do some magic presumably for the Night King. Also, all the prophecies are misleading, like AA could fight for the others or something like that.
There is also Naidel, which seems to be Arya's Needle
Prediction 3 > 3 swords made of exotic materials are used in cheating death magic
Prediction 4> Prophecies are incomplete, and if you put all the pieces together, they actually say the opposite of what they seem to
Prediction 5> Night's King is alive
In MS&T, the sun is blocked out by a spreading artificial cloud from the stronghold of the dark lord that brings with it a cold winter. This seems to be pretty much in line with Sam's guesses so:
Prediction 6 > Night's King is going to bring an artificial winter to at least some parts of westeros.
Pyrates works for the Others, but the guy who maddens the king by whispering in his ears, Varys, does not seem to be working for the Others. Pyatt Pree is also similar to this character. Don't yet know what to make of this, yet.
Then again, GRRM very specifically said only the first two books were inspirations, so maybe the endings will go in a different direction.
So GRRM had said at an event that Tad Williams' books inspired ASOIAF
Tad’s fantasy series, The Dragonbone Chair and the rest of his famous four-book trilogy, was one of the things that inspired me to write my own seven-book trilogy. I read Tad and was impressed by him, but the imitators that followed – well, fantasy got a bad rep for being very formulaic and ritual. And I read The Dragonbone Chair and said, My god, they can do something with this form, and it’s Tad doing it. It’s one of my favorite fantasy series.

GRRM has said the Others are Sidhe made of ice
The Others are not dead. They are strange, beautiful… think, oh… the Sidhe made of ice, something like that… a different sort of life… inhuman, elegant, dangerous.
