Knowing Stannis' full arc (well at least his ending point) perhaps now as we're reintroduced to Stannis we might want to look at things in context. Stannis in the show is much more of a religious man--true he is not an outright zealot, but he eventually becomes a believer. He is a man who wants to believe that there is more than life has given him, that it might be a heavy burden but that burden makes him special in a way he never felt.
So let us consider Stannis' story as we are reintroduced to him here in Season 2.

Cressan here is really summarizing the POV Cressan has to those that surround Stannis in the book as he talks to Davos. It reminds me of how powerful Cressan's Prologue chapter was as he was humiliated and mourned that he could not protect the boy he'd raised to be a man from himself.
D&D in the behind the episode miss the entire point of Stannis. Book Stannis seems the kingship as his duty. Show Stannis is all about his desire for the throne. Also that Stephen Dillane interview that came out recently... ouch.
Darkstar will be the next Vulture King.
Craster has 19 daughters and there are 19 castles on the Wall, coincidence I think not!
