Because..... reasons..... oh maybe it would make Cat happy?
Mayhaps. Cat likely wouldn't have been happy with breaking the Frey betrothal anyway. It does make for good (and cheap) TV though. Considering the writers had nothing to base it upon, it could have been worse I s'pose.

Not the act of marriage, breaking the pact with the Frey's was madness. Doing the ceremony under the Faith of the Seven would have been pleasing.
Darkstar will be the next Vulture King.
Craster has 19 daughters and there are 19 castles on the Wall, coincidence I think not!
Did anyone else catch that when Luwin's talking to Theon about taking the black he mentions that there are escape tunnels leading away from Winterfell?!?
Why must I always be the isle of crazy alone in an ocean of sensibility? The should to everybody else’s shouldn’t? The I-will to their better-nots?
Stannis and Mel getting close on a religious level & strangulation.
Interesting how Stannis knows that he killed Renly here. He denies it in the books. Also interesting to note that she tells him he will betray everyone, including himself and he seems perfectly fine with this.
Why would a Stark and a girl from the free cities take vows of the Seven?
Well, that Stark was raised in a Winterfell that had a sept with a mother who worshiped the seven. Plus, it might not have been a weirwood, but they were still married in front of a tree.
What I do find interesting about Dany's visions are that they seem to symbolize, again, everything she is willing to or has already given up to be the mother of dragons. She's reaching for the iron throne and is only distracted by the dragons crying. Same thing with Drogo and Rhaego. Daenerys is content and happy and only realizes that she must leave when the dragons cry out for her again. She's symbolically sacrificing Drogo and Rhaego for a second time for her dragons.

Theon Greyjoy: I will kill that man! I swear to the Drowned God, the old gods, the new gods, to every fucking god in every fucking heaven, I will kill that man!
Theon Greyjoy: And whoever kills that fucking horn-blower will stand in bronze above the shores of Pyke!
