Hello everyone, I have something to ask you guys related to Melisandre and the No One people. I haven't finished the books so I don't know if Melisandre is also 400 years old there but I assume she is for it seems it will play a big part in the end game. If she isn't then I apologize.
In that one scene of Melisandre revealing her true nature and age, it really was her taking her "daily" face off. People say she has the potions and the necklace to thank for that magnificent permament botox that transforms her old lady butt into a red-hot one but what if she has the same magic Arya uses to thank for it? What if she's able to switch faces because she is also No One? After all, she and Arya did have an encounter and a weird talk in which Melisandre basically predicted this whole story with her. The potions and the necklace may be keeping her alive, though, but where does the face come from? And is it known where do Faceless Men originate from, could it be Asshai?
Do you think this is even a tiny possibility or is it absolutely off the tracks?

Working on it as i type, and i absolutely love that drawing.
Its from a wonderful webcomic called Gunnerkrigg Court and I'd imagine most of our forum goers would enjoy it. www.gunnerkrigg.com/
Everytime we get the answer to any question we end up with about three more questions. I admit the early art style can be hard to get through but its the story and characters that make it so interesting. Also the artist improves a great deal.
I was too Jon-SotM focused to really see the connection between Jaqen and Weirwoods, and to be honest, I'd rather there wasn't a connection, but your OP is opening my mind to the possibility.
I have a idea about Val and Dalla having connections to the Moonsingers of Braavos. Certainly possible there are other connections between the Wildlings and Braavos. They are right across the pond from each other.
This Skinchanger angle is a nice one.Maybe in the darkness of the mines that ability awoke.
PJ mentions many times in Martin's other books that darkness has a away of awakening supernatural powers in humans, or psychic depending on your point of view.
This is very much in line with your observations on trickster figures arising in response to oppressive conditions. As you point out, Varys and LF are different in their modus operandi. Does LF parallel the Faceless Men, while Varys mirrors greenseers/skinchangers?
I certainly see this as being true. Baelish clearly has connections to Braavos and I think either the Iron Bank or the Faceless Men (or both). Meanwhile Varys seems to be so like to Bloodraven I am not sure if he is working with or against him. Could see it either way.

We don't know Mel's exact age from the books just subtle hints that she is far older than she appears. Also the taking the face off that happens in the show doesn't/hasn't happened in the books.
I'd imagine that the facechanging is simply another application of blood magic. The Valyrian's practiced it, the Asshai's practice it, the Faceless Men practice it etc. Also Mel never meets Arya in the books its another show invention. (At least I don't remember it)
I think the Valyrians came from Asshai rather the area that was the Great Empire of the Dawn. So unless the Kindly Man is lying to Arya I don't see he would lie about the history since he clearly wants her to join them of her own free will. Essos seems to be all about that blood magic so its hard to guess if it has an origin point or many groups developed their owns methods.
Darkstar will be the next Vulture King.
Craster has 19 daughters and there are 19 castles on the Wall, coincidence I think not!

Re: the bold... I just have to point out that Carice van Houten is 41 at the time of this post. Granted, that is much younger than 400, but still, that 41 year old ass deserves our respect and admiration. It has certainly won mine.
Re: the rest... I don't think you're off the tracks at all. In the books, she seems to have embraced many fields of study (like Mirri Maz Duur), so I wouldn't be surprised at all to find Faceless Studies on her transcript.
How far along are you in the books? If you've passed the epilogue of A Storm of Swords, click the spoiler.
My theory is that Melisandre is a younger, more beautiful version of Lady Stoneheart (or at least, while she's much older now, her body was younger and more beautiful when "Melony" died).
