Again this supposed plan with Robb was never "THE PLAN" Baelish is simply playing the options as the chaos of politics and war unfolds. It certainly wasn't the plan from the start. However at this point Cat is single, he saves her daughter, puts her son on the throne, makes himself indisensible to the the new regime, gets rewarded and maybe marries Cat?
No, Robb was never plan A, we agree on that. It's the placing Robb on the throne I'm far from convinced on. Maybe in a short term, but I doubt it in the longrun.
This scenario could be possible if Baelish is still inclined to his more romantic side, but it doesn't really sound right to me. He could get Cat and her eternal gratitude and maybe marriage without crowning Robb too, and these things I think is the important ones for him. And the gratitude of Sansa, for whatever future reason. After all, Robb is kind of a wildcard for him. Considering the northerners have kept themselves isolated for so long, and not participated in the southron politics, Robb could be a source of contention and struggles. He's more likely to place known people around him in council, or if not it's possible he'd place men from the high families in the south to be fair etc. If Handship is still on the agenda, I'd think this would be a bad choice. And is Robb a king the other families would agree on having om the throne?
Just trying to think of what Baelish would consider before placing a bet, so to speak.
Baelish was forced into the Lannister camp due to the fact that Ned would have crowned him.
We agree on that! I was thinking more from Bitterbridge and foreward after Renly died, as I'm not sure why the Tyrells had to join the Lannisters at all. There's several ways to break them both after all. Seems more like a detour to me. Basically I'm wondering about what seeds he was sowing that needed some years to sprout.
Well this is later after he failed kidnapping of Sansa during the bread riots. He brings in the Tyrells to insure that Stannis fails. Remember Baelish is always on Baelish's side. Tyrion already suspects him in the "knife incident" and more importantly Tywin has arrived in court and is now the de facto ruler of Westeros. Selling out the plan about the Tyrells does two things. Keeps Sansa close so Baelish can steal her at a later date and makes him useful to Tywin and the Lannisters in general.
We agree on this too. Shamefully I can't remember what my line of thought was there, a thought that hit me and I neglected to write down. Maybe it will come back.
He would still marry Lysa. It makes him a High Lord and nominal LP of the Vale. Finish the war and eliminate Lysa when it is convient and move on to Cat or Sansa.
Ok. Got the impression this line of thought was more straight lined for Cat.
I don't think there was. Renly had the strongest position in the early part of the war. No one was expecting shadow baby assassins to be involved.
Haha, no one was expecting him to be beshadowed! They're almost like the Spanish Inquisition, they are.
Still, I think it would be odd if he didn't have a "replacement" of sorts. Maybe not one he intended to elevate so high, but one he could move into position when the need came. If so, I'm not sure we've seen him yet. But early days for me yet!
