I haven't read the book but I certainly can see the parallels. I think the irony of the situation is that Baelish honestly does (or did) think that he slept with Cat and she loved him in return. This leads to the duel and his fall from grace. She has to fulfill her father's ambition as a high lord, after all Family, Duty, Honor. No room for love there.
Yeah, in that book Dirk is dating/sleeping with Gwen, but he still keeps his imaginary perfect girl "Jenny" in his mind... so he is sleeping with his perfect girl. Dirk is summoned to the planet where Gwen is because he assumes it is her that is summoning him (because of a crystal), but it turns out to not be the case. He misjudges the situation again, even though he was soooo sure of it, and for much of the book he wants to (and tries to) fight Gwen's new husband, Jaan. It is only later that Dirk realizes his folly, and while this is the main undercurrent of the story, it is really not the bigger struggle.
I really believe that Sansa and Arya will be the bonded sisters Catelyn wanted them to be. Maybe Arya, upon returning to Westeros lands in Kings Landing first, she knows the castle from her cat cahootin' before, and she gets ahold of Widow's Wail... which is like a Catelyn made sword for many reasons. Dunno, just throwing out ideas with that one.
Catelyn does makes some comment to Renly and Stannis about putting aside sibling rivalry.
A Clash of Kings - Catelyn III
"You are frank, Lady Stark. Very well, I'll answer you frankly. To take the city, I need the power of these southron lords I see across the field. My brother has them. I must needs take them from him."
"Men give their allegiance where they will, my lord. These lords swore fealty to Robert and House Baratheon. If you and your brother were to put aside your quarrel—"
...and then...
"This is folly," Catelyn said sharply.
...and then...
Renly shrugged. "The Targaryens called Robert usurper. He seemed to be able to bear the shame. So shall I."
This will not do. "Listen to yourselves! If you were sons of mine, I would bang your heads together and lock you in a bedchamber until you remembered that you were brothers."
Stannis frowned at her. "You presume too much, Lady Stark. I am the rightful king, and your son no less a traitor than my brother here. His day will come as well."
