There's another component to this, which is the lightning. The burning trees are frequently associated with lightning (think of the Grey King - stealing fire from the gods story, Beric the One-Eyed lightning lord). Broken swords come into it also, because when the others, who are described as lightning at least twice, break a sword with their cold ones, the broken sword is like a tree stuck by lightning. I believe this is all a reference to the fire from heaven, the terrible knowledge, which takes the specific form of these black meteors. There's a lot of lightning / burning wood symbolism all around the switchback stair at the Wall, it's very heavy and in more than one scene. Basically, the pattern I am seeing is lightning called down from heaven (the black moon meteors), trees and / or greenseers are "burned" or fire transformed, and the result are these fiery sorcerers and probably the blood of the dragon and other very bad things. Lightbringer included.
I don't even think this necessary, only choice and coercion in wielding an element. That's why Jon in theory can be both not because of anything other than him being an uber Skinchanger and choice. If Mel had convinced him to take her hand he would be fire.Same with ice that's why to me such symbols can't be used yo determine parentage either way. This is a power grab for what Jon and his siblings, what Dany are.
Ok, I see where you're coming from.
Let me ask you an open ended question: what do you make of these fiery sorcerers and dancers that keep appearing from burning wood? What do you think George is telling us here?
