So I was bored and went over to the other place to browse, and decided to hit up the Citadel for the heck of it. I found myself in the labyrinth that is So Spake Martin, and dived down the rabbit hole.
After clicking around for a while, I stumbled on a few interesting nuggets that don't seem to be in wide circulation around the internet, or that have different wording than/expound on the stock-standard SSMs referenced all the time in various places. I'm starting this thread to house these gems as I run across them.
First, this beaut from November 2005 (right around the release of AFFC):
"Boba Fett
He talked about the Boba Fett syndrom. It is basically how a side non-character captures the imagination of the reader/viewer way beyond the creator's intent. It's the "cool" characters that have one line or five minutes of screen/page time that gather a cult following. He also said he gets fan letters where people say, "I love Tytos Blackwood. Can we learn more about him?" He called Oberyn Martell one of his Boba Fett characters."
Huh. Oberyn Martell was meant to be a side 'non-character'. Interesting! Does that mean that all the Oberyn conspiracy theories are a non-starter?
Followed by:
"I just remembered that someone at the back of the room asked "Who can we expect to live through the series?" GRRM misheard this as "How many"... His answer was "I don't know. 6, 4, 7? 7 has been a good number so far."
And my favorite thus far:
"Q: Was Sandor part of Tywin's Party at the sack of King's Landing?"
"A: Yes."
WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. Hold the phone!!! You mean that this small but possibly VERY relevant piece of information has been around for TEN YEARS and no one has mentioned it? That The Hound, our resident non-knight who seems to be truer than actual knights, and who has acted as a de facto 'protector' of sorts for TWO Stark maidens, was in King's Landing during the Sack??? Wut. SlyWren and Lady Dyanna might find this extremely interesting for the Sansa explanations.
There will be more to come...I just have to find them. Feel free to post your own into this thread as we can make one big compilation of overlooked data.
