To me, what stands out the most is the connection to House Dayne. Aside from being descended from the "perfect knight" as already mentioned, Evenfall sounds a bit like Starfall, and Evenstar goes with Darkstar. No other Houses refer to themselves as stars.
Then there is the question of physical similarities. The Daynes look like Valyrians- but what about House Tarth? IIRC, the only person to have been described in detail is Brienne. Sure, she is not beautiful like the Targaryens, but we know that not ALL of them were: for example, there is that two-headed Blackfyre guy who was killed by Barristan. He is said to have looked like a beast. Brienne does have white-blonde hair and blue eyes though, so a distant relation to the Daynes (and therefore, the Valyrians) is not impossible.
There is also the matter of all her siblings dying either in the cradle or at a young age- something we also often see in Targaryens. Unfortunately I don't think we have been given much information about the Daynes' fertility, aside from the allegedly stillborn daughter of Ashara, so it's hard to speculate further.
Oh and the preference for island dwelling- all three houses (Tarth, Dayne, Targaryen) first established themselves on islands off the Westerosi coast. The difference being that the Targaryens ultimately moved onto land, which may have been their undoing.
I completely agree--though I had not thought of the Targs as island dwellers, too. Very good point.
Makes one wonder if the Daynes are also a kind of refugees, as are the Targs.
