I'm surprised Jaime hasn't tried to use it anyways. Or even just a short sword like it. He complains that Oathkeeper is useless to him as is as it's too big and he's not worthy of it anymore, and he complains that longswords are too heavy and cumbersome for his left hand which is unused to them. He doggedly tries to get his strength and form back by training with a longsword anyways, but seems like the easiest way to do that would be to start with a smaller sword and work his way up.
I mean, you don't give a kid a full sized longsword when you first start teaching them to fight as they can't handle it, so it's always seemed to me like Jaime naturally should be trying to work with a smaller sword first given that his left hand can't handle it either. Oh it can certainly lift a sword and swing it around, Jaime's a full grown adult, but his wrist doesn't have the dexterity or endurance that his right hand had because it hasn't been used that way before. A smaller sword would solve a lot of his problems and would help him get better quicker. It would also vastly improve his footwork, something he's had trouble with since switching his stance, given that the shorter sword would obviously require him to get in and out much faster than a longsword does.
A short sword is a natural fit for Jaime's current predicament. But alas, I'm sure that his pride wouldn't let him train with a "kid's sword".
Your lordship lost a son at the Red Wedding. I lost four upon the Blackwater. And why? Because the Lannisters stole the throne. Go to King’s Landing and look on Tommen with your own eyes, if you doubt me. A blind man could see it. What does Stannis offer you? Vengeance. Vengeance for my sons and yours, for your husbands and your fathers and your brothers. Vengeance for your murdered lord, your murdered king, your butchered princes. Vengeance!

You make a really good point here. I truly would be logical. I don't know that its necessarily a "kids sword." I know it's mentioned that it's smaller than Oathkeeper, but IIRC either Jaime or Tyrion mention that its still too much sword for Joff. Plus I can't imagine Tywin giving his grandson the King anything ordinary whether he still be young or not. He is the King afterall.
Also, I'm just realizing, Widow's Wail pretty much completely drops from discussion following Joff's death. What exactly happened to it? Did it get passed down to Tommen. Did Cersei put it somewhere for safe keeping? Did it just stay in storage in the armory? Where did it go?
Why must I always be the isle of crazy alone in an ocean of sensibility? The should to everybody else’s shouldn’t? The I-will to their better-nots?

It's hidden in those rolled-up tapestries Littlefinger had shipped from King's Landing!
"No true knight would condone such wanton butchery." "True knights see worse every time they ride to war, wench," said Jaime. "And do worse, yes." Brienne turned the rudder toward the shore. "I'll leave no innocents to be food for crows." "A heartless wench. Crows need to eat as well. Stay to the river and leave the dead alone, woman."

Very possible. Also might be the sword he gave to loras Tyrell before he headed to Dragonstone.
Darkstar will be the next Vulture King.
Craster has 19 daughters and there are 19 castles on the Wall, coincidence I think not!

Interesting idea. Why do you think Jaime would do that? A token of greater faith in him than his other sworn brothers, maybe?

Loras is his favorite and the text mentions a beautiful sword just putting two and two together. Why would Baelish risk stealing the sword and for what purpose?
