Today was the long awaited release date for the eighth book in the Harry Potter series. It picks up right where book 7 left off, on Platform 9 3/4, with Harry and Ginny's sons, James and Albus about to leave on the Hogwarts Express. The book has been released in the same format as the same named play that began its UK run yesterday. I couldn't resist and purchased the kindle edition late last night. Is anyone else planning to read it?
Why must I always be the isle of crazy alone in an ocean of sensibility? The should to everybody else’s shouldn’t? The I-will to their better-nots?
Yes. Am debating on buying it for my son's birthday tomorrow, or just buying it for myself. he's really the bigger Harry Potter fan of the two of us, but i'm interested to see where the story goes...

Just purchased it today thanks to Mojo reminding me it was released.
We'll be starting it with the kids tonight.
"I can see it. You have more of the north in you than your brothers."
This one is a pretty fast read, especially being in stage format. Not that kids won't enjoy it, but it seems like it's meant to connect with the parent that grew up on Harry Potter. I finished the whole thing in one day.

Yeah me too. Were you a grown up when the novels were being published? Was she as rushed in the previous story telling as well? It's been years since I've read HP. I feel like this has a preaching feel to it compared to the novels, no?

I think I was in my twenties when I started reading them, but several of the books were out by then. As far as the rushed feeling, I noticed it on this one two. I think a lot of that is due to the format. You really can't explore thoughts, feelings and internal dialogue as well in a screen play. Plus it can't go on forever. It's kind of like reading the movie version of the older books instead of the books themselves.

I was really young, thought to check to see if the books were like this one too. I LOVEd them when I was a kid, but everything sounds good when you are so young.

Why does any young teen have problems with their parents? It doesn't always make logical sense. I think that Albus was just putting pressure on himself to live up to being the son of the "Famous Harry Potter." More than anything he was just insecure.

the Time Turner was such a central plot device. JKR was criticized by her beloved fan base and removed them quite purposefully from the series because they created many plot holes. The 8th installment seems to embrace that dilemma.

You are not the first person I've heard mention that. Part of the reason I was originally reluctant to purchase this book was because Rowling didn't write the whole thing herself. It's stuff like this that actually makes me wonder if she was really involved at all.
