A Scientific Analysis of How Fast Trollmaster RR Martin's Writes and Edits Non The Never Ending Story BullshitBryndenBFish has come to the dark side
I can't pretend it takes much work to find evidence of GRRM working on Wild Cards. It's kind of his thing.
What takes real effort, is finding evidence that he's working on ASOIAF.
It's been a year and four months since he told us he thought it would be done a year and six months ago.
And, at that time, Jan 2 2016, he said,
Nor is it likely to be finished tomorrow, or next week. Yes, there's a lot written. Hundreds of pages. Dozens of chapters. (Those 'no pages done' reports were insane, the usual garbage internet journalism that I have learned to despise). But there's also a lot still left to write. I am months away still... and that's if the writing goes well. (Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't.) Chapters still to write, of course... but also rewriting. I always do a lot of rewriting, sometimes just polishing, sometimes pretty major restructures.

"Months away" in January. January of 2016.
Why didn't he just admit the book was YEARS away?
It's not just us, my friend. His own editors were let down too. He even procrastinated to the point that he disappointed HBO . . . even though he had a FIVE BOOK head start!
My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed...
Even GRRM, cognizant of his own demons, didn't think that would be possible.
And... we haven't yet accounted for the fact that D&D spread the third book out over the course of two complete seasons, giving Mr Martin an extra year to edit Wild Cards, back in 2013.
Six short stories were PUBLISHED through the Tor Books website from January 2013 to March 2016.... five of these were edited by our industrious turtle:
2013 "When We Were Heroes" by Daniel Abraham, edited by Martin
2013 "The Button Man and the Murder Tree" by Cherie Priest, edited by Martin
2013 "The Elephant in the Room" by Paul Cornell, edited by Martin
2014 "Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza" by Carrie Vaughn, edited by Martin
2014 "Prompt. Professional. Pop!" by Walter Jon Williams, edited by Martin
The cherry on top?
How about editing a new book for print?
