There should have been tears and hugging, no fucking lame ass growls.
And there's no fucking way Nymeria would have let Arya walk into winter alone.
POG (I believe) totally called it. It was a call back to S1. I allowed my own expectations to raise my standards thus leading to pure disappointment. But I haven't given up yet! No reason for them to show us Nym unless she's coming back. They don't exactly throw around the expensive CGI Direwolves all willy nilly. Fuck they don't even give them to us when they should!
IMO She'll curiously stalk Arya from a distance. Arya will get into some trouble and Nym will save her. It has to happen. Arya had to pretend to be a boy so it would be safer to travel. You can't tell me that it's all of the sudden safe for a girl to travel solo.
I'm surprised she doesn't wear a face to travel. Also I wonder if Wun Wun is already burned, or if his face is still available... Since it seems she picks up the physique of whoever's face she wears. A giant would be useful to have around.

“In Qohor he is the Black Goat, in Yi Ti the Lion of Night, in Westeros the Stranger. All men must bow to him in the end, no matter if they worship the Seven or the Lord of Light, the Moon Mother or the Drowned God or the Great Shepherd. All mankind belongs to him... else somewhere in the world would be a folk who lived forever. Do you know of any folk who live forever?”
About the show not living up to it's earlier seasons in terms of good writing: it doesn't matter. The remaining eps could be garbage and we and the rest of the world/social media would still watch and talk/read think pieces and forums. Kinda like Dexter took a nose dive in the last few seasons, but the writers/show runners/etc still got paid, and people still paid attention. I agree that these final seasons would probably be better if GRRM would have gotten off his fat ass and finished the fucking novels. But he didn't.
Also, not enough talk about Euron. And I saw one of his minions cutting a tongue out!! We're getting there

I think Maise is a pretty good actress. Watch this scene and watch her facial expressions. Not to mention this was a pretty good moment in the entire series too!

I don't think Dany is going to die, but if GRRM wants to really throw people for a loop and getting them guessing then she dies near the end of the season. Dany is really the only seemingly untouchable character right now. I just think everything is going down a predictable path and killing Dany really fucks with everyone..

Sam doesn't seem unhappy or disillusioned overall, he never complains or thinks about leaving. He just breaks the rules and does what he wants...
I don't agree. What you are describing (never complains, never says he's thinking of leaving) is the absence of exposition, not the absence of Sam's disappointment, which is seen in his expression as he trudges through his duties. That Sam is running out of patience with the Citadel is not demonstrated in surrender, but in action: the theft of knowledge that he is meant to wait years to 'earn.' Sam is there on urgent business, and he doesn't have time for this shit (literally).
While crude, I think it's effective visual communication, and a partial adaptation of Pate's experiences:
When I am a maester in a castle I will have a horse to ride, he thought. Then he tripped upon a cobble and wondered who he was fooling. There would be no chain for him, no seat at a lord's high table, no tall white horse to ride. His days would be spent listening to ravens quork and scrubbing shit stains off Archmaester Walgrave's smallclothes.

I'd go so far as to say she's the best actress/actor on the show, tbh. But I didn't like this scene.
I like that she found out about Jon, and agree she played it perfectly, but I don't understand the way it was written and directed. No smiles for Hot Pie, a boy with whom she has real history. Seeing him again should have been like seeing an old friend that's been through some shit with you.
But instead it was cold and distant. Functional. "Do you have any ale?" ...then she just grabs his flagon.
Compare that with the warmth she gave the Lannister soldiers in the same episode, and it just feels wrong and misplaced.
"I can see it. You have more of the north in you than your brothers."

Yeah, I guess a good question to ask is what's up with all the monotone acting all of a sudden?

I think that has to come back to the writing. The strongest moments of the show have typically been adaptations of scenes found in the books. Now that they are charting their own territory, things have been pretty bad. They're not good at following their own precedents and canon, so without any foundation at all to make the storylines make sense, I'm trying to keep my expectations low.
The actors can't do much with these scenes the way they are written, imo. And the directors haven't helped much. Podeswa is meh. Mylod is bad. Cogman and Mylod gave us the last episode. Aside from Missandei's ass, I have no idea what they were thinking with that love scene.
