I don't know what GRRM is doing, bu sometimes I fear he doesn't want to finish the series. And while I agree that in some ways, that keeps the debate open (for eternity), that doesn't make me happy. Somethings can be left inconclusive, but not the whole DAMN series!
Hahaha, agreed. I mean thank you George for this wonderful world, I'll always love you for that but sometimes I feel the urge to look you up in a room with a typing machine and keep your butt there until you finish the story. With a dragon guarding the door. Alongside my wrath. And some more dragons and be like:
YOU DONE YET?

I would say the majority of the fandom feels this exact way!!!
Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.
I just sometimes fear that we have all thought about this more than GRRM ever did!
Too right!
I recall reading some excruciatingly long chats on the position of a certain comma in one of Ned's POV (something to do with how many children he had, i think). Now that was something! The 165 RLJ threads depended on it!
I guess that is what happens when you write a thrilling epic making sure to remove every third sentence so that it becomes a mystery foggier than London in the days of Sherlock Holmes. And of course, there is social media.
"Arya did not dare take a bath, even though she smelled as bad as Yoren by now, all sour and stinky. Some of the creatures living in her clothes had come all the way from Flea Bottom with her; it didn’t seem right to drown them."

While I'm still drowning in information after only a year reading the books, I have to admit I'm on this wagon too. One of my points against reading the series was the question of him ever finishing, so I considered waiting to see if he ever does. But my curiosity overcame the doubt in the end.
I have questioned if I made the right choice, but in the end the snug warmth of the Hearth made it worth it! Though at times I fear I'll be the last one posting here, all in my lonesome, and then move over to a blog nobody ever bothers to read!

Not to mention that the sentences you DO include can have at least three meanings!
Are you thinking of the scene in the godswood with Cersei? I have to admit I've studied that a bit more than I like to think about.
Taking a step back and looking at the community, it does seem like madness gone viral. One of the more appealing thoughts for me is the revealing of Jon as a non-Targaryen and watching how people loose their minds. But then I can be a bit cruel.

People will keep posting, although this is a period of quietness. I think it's been slow at the Westeros board, as well. There is always a little downturn in posting in the "winter" when the show isn't on. And I am sure there is some aspect where people do grow frustrated waiting endlessly for the next book to arrive. Sometimes I think GRRM is waiting until the furor dies down and only diehard's remain to give us another book. Or he will never give us that next book ...

There are certain people that have A LOT invested in RLJ being true, and I feel like their world might be forever changed if it turns out to be disproved. I mean, I do almost feel bad ... It's a theory that has a lot going for it, but it also has major flaws and holes. I just can't understand how sometime people are so blind to the possibility that it could be incorrect. They won't even consider other options which I think is amazingly stubborn. And this is coming from an amazingly stubborn person who pretty easily set aside the idea of RLJ! I am very aware it could still turn out to be the case, but admit it would surprise me a bit, considering the complicated tale that is being told.

It's natural and understandable that interest falls when it takes so long between books, I absolutely get that! I read the Kingkiller Chronicles in 2012, and I've basically stopped waiting for the last book. I came late to the game, and it was way bigger than I thought, so it just makes me wonder if I'll be the last one to leave as it takes much time to puzzle it together.
My gut feeling from more or less the start has been that Winds won't come until the last season has aired; with so many changes it just seems the most logical to me. I haven't followed Martin's (lack) of progress, so I don't have much to say on that, other than Winds might come while Dream might stay a dream. I try not to invest too many feelings into it. Time will show, as the saying goes where I am.

RLJ could turn out to be the case, though I too would be suprised if it does.
What suprises me are those who seems to read the story with this at the core, their whole understaning of the story has this at it's foundation it seems to me. If that is torn down.... well, that might not be a pretty sight! And I do feel for them if this comes to pass, even if my mean side would find it hillarious. Not wanting to discuss it seems to be divided into three camps. Those who think this is the case and respect that not all agree, those who think it's true more or less because it's the most popular theory (like the books are a democracy somehow... ), and those who are almost militant in their belief. The first group I have no problem with, the other two I just don't understand. The anger and hostility some of those show are just mindboggling. And with so many videos and threads where this is stated as fact, how many readers (mainly in group two) think this is true simply because of that? I prefer to make up my own mind, even if my conclution ends up being way off.

I had hoped Winds would be released soon after the final season of the show, but now I am not sure it will be quickly following Season 8. I am suddenly feeling he might be years off, and that is a bit depressing. I don't think he was ever truly happy about Feast and Dance being split, and I think he will resist that happening again. Honestly, I have felt like for a while I will be SHOCKED if he wraps this up in 7 novels, I am expecting 8 or 9 to tie things up, and I don't know if he has that much writing of this series still in him. (Perhaps if he goes back to the tight writing he did with the first three novels, not the flowing and wordy last two novels, he might do it in two books, but editing seems hard for him, I think) I think part of him wants to go back to short stories and novella's that intertwine only on a pretty superficial level, and not this huge knot of connections he has created in the world of ASOIAF.
Or he just wants to turn all of his previous writings into tv and movies, and not develop anything fresh anymore, and drink mimosa's on his patio in New Mexico and collect tiny little figurines and set them up in play battles...

There is a lot of confirmation bias involved with RLJ. A person believes it's possible, then checks the internet and see's how many other people believe it, and therefore it is confirmed to the new readers (this happened to me, I think). As to the old readers, there is a bit of superiority that they figured it out before other readers, while at the same time they are invigorated by the same conclusion of new readers, thus confirming it to them, and/or lording it over people who didn't figure IT out. And thus the snowball of confirmation bias keeps rolling down hill and growing with each rotation!

I try to keep the parentage separate in my thoughts in regards to the major conclusion, but recognize it has to matter somewhat, or the mystery would not be included at all!
However, it the people who claim that if RLJ is NOT the case, then GRRM is a terrible writer that is so shocking to me. I think that could be postponing the next book as well, because our confirmation is supposed to come in Winds, at least for Jon's parentage, and GRRM might actually fear the backlash from many of the readers, oldies and newbies both! Or even the people who say that RLJ is too simple, to basic for GRRM might be holding him back, if RLJ is what he truly intended, as he now might doubt himself as a story teller. It's a bit of a catch 22, and he might not feel he has an escape!

I don't keep an eye on him or his progress tbh, so I don't think much on when, how many etc. I find I have enough with the books. I did keep an eye on Patric Rothfuss for the last Kingkiller, but it just ended up being disappointments. So I perfer to have it come when/of it comes.

Yup, a vicious cycle is well in place! I avoided that, thank the gods. In fact, it almost kept me from reading the books in the first place as my impression was that this is the main question of the story.

It has a role to play, but I'm far from sure how large it is.

Haha, he has fallen into that trap it seems! Or rather, the fandom has created a monster!

That is very smart of you. I try not to wonder, but I was still checking for possible publication dates for Winds until I found out that Fire and Blood would be published this year, well ahead of Winds! Took the wind right out of my sails!

Well, it would be unfair as I was hoping for time to work at the mysteries, and then turn around a year later and start complaining. That is the upside to being a newcommer. I perfectly understand those of you who have waited for years and years. And fully aware of the possibility that he will never finish. Just not fond of black pills.
