LOL! Snowbeard could be a genius play on words! The nickname could connect him with Snows somehow, including himself being a Snow I guess. Many options with that name! I have started to look into the Starks in a small way, got as far as making some thoughts on the lineage we have in the WB. But it still needs alot more work! I'll have this in mind!
Their descendants added the prefix Long to waters to wash the tint of bastardy. Mayhaps Edric Snowbeard had a similar backstory.
I have actually speculated this very thing on a different thread over here. I post things like a drunken sailor, then can't find where I posted! One of these chapter reread parentage threads, I suppose. I do think Snowbeard could be a play on this, just like we see with Longwaters, which is in reference to bastard names. I think we get that Longwater's story for a reason. And in the north, we see the Karstark's and Greystark's as a legitimate line of Stark's that altered their names is some way. One of my sticky notes in my pile is about variations of bastard names in the text but I never got around to search for more variations. Maybe some day!
I am sure you could find it online somewhere Oh Shyest of Maids.
Also, I swear they used to make pens that lit up, but I don't think they were the size of a great sword!
Ygritte story has several errors that place it pre and post Targaryen conquests. Its one of those stories that is muddled by history.
Of course I have the answer, I am the all knowing, all powerful Wraith... actually I don't really have anything.
However thanks to the magic of the internet I do have an answer. The Asshai do have a language. Mel knows it as well as common and Valyrian.
