Well, Robb was more than likely killed by Roose. Even if the man in the dark armor with the pale pink cloak is not well identified by Catelyn.
Some of the point is that Robb is supposed to be the first Stark killed in a very long time. While I think the "thousand years" could very much be an inaccurate number, post Conquest is too far of a stretch for me with the current information we have. Not buying this line of thought, sorry.
It might very well turn out that this is the case, and the Bolton's have been very good neighbors in recent years. I just think it's possible, as I think most everything in this story is possible.
Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.
And I do think there are some mistakes. Like the lineage chart not having certain Stark lords in Bold to indicate they were Lord.
I haven't bothered tracing this in detail, just looking at it as family-building. It's far down on my list.
I really had not either, but yesterday, I had the Stark lineage open when reading your quote of Bran's list of the statues, and I decided to follow along. And that is when I noticed Lord Donner and Lord Rodwell being discrepancies, between the text and the chart. I have to admit such an error rather surprised me. It makes me wonder how many other error's there could be between resources? Or if it's not an error, then it's a clue. Perhaps there are more statues in the crypts that don't belong to sitting Lord's of Winterfell, and if that is the case, it doesn't make Brandon's statue that irregular. Lyanna would still be an outlier since she is female.
If the chart is correct and Bran is wrong, that gives us Brandon, Donner, Rodwell, and Artos that have statues but were never Lord of Winterfell.
I will admit, it's easier to assume the chart in the World Book is incorrect!

The tab when completely crazy and started to autodelete things! Never had that happened before, so I just closed the browser asap. Everything was fine when I opened it again, thank the gods!
I haven't sat down to read it closely yet, but I like it so far. It's a bit easier to follow some discussions on the far past that isn't in the novels. And it is a beautiful book!
It is a lovely book, and I have enjoyed it for the most part, especially the illustrations. Some nice history too, that the books don't get into.
The illustration of Robert and Rhaegar on the Trident is possibly my favorite in the book. Such an iconic image that I carry from the story!
I can totally see Roose, stretched out naked on the Dreadfort couch, feet propped on his coffee table, covered in leaches and sipping Hippocras while instructing Ramsey in the proper way to tan a human pelt!!! There will of course be a cozy fire in the room, with a Reek to fill his cup often and carefully, and to keep the flaying knives sharp!
"A peaceful land, a quiet people, that has always been my rule."-Lord Roose Bolton
Before that, Domeric used to read to him from "On the Properties of Human Leather".

Ha, I think "good neighbors" has to be in a matter of degrees! I'm not saying they were necessarily as good as other neighbors, but good enough that the Starks didn't have to put them in place in a big way. Roose isn't so good by his own admission (keeping the First Night is one thing, killing the miller like Roose did is another), but makes sure it doesn't get back to the Starks. Killing Starks is way past the line imo, and we'd hear about it.

Tagging voice for this! Maybe he has something to say on it, and if not it's probably something for him to ponder re: your earlier discussion on the crypts!

Yeah, and getting the history in a more sorted way was good. So I didn't have to do it myself. Made some videos and podcasts more easy to follow, for one.
Several illustrations have stayed in my head, this one included!
Hahaha! But doesn't Roose burn all his books and papers, so I don't think there is much of a library at the Dreadfort!
Well Roose is an immortal vampire. He reads the books than burns them so no one else has the knowledge.
I think he very well could be. There is something very off about Roose-the pale skin, the pale eyes, the whispery voice, the rare food and hippocras, the fact that he is looking for a son with his similar eye color (probably body size and frame, as well), the leeches! Yup! Skin-stealing immortal! Besides this, I think he reads a few books on how to try to kill skinchangers's, too!

I agree this seems to be up voice 's tree! The crypts, the Stark's, the north.
I have been trying to look into information or admissions from GRRM, Elio or Linda that the Stark lineage in the published World Book is incorrect, but so far I haven't found that admission or information. It's probably out there, I just haven't found it yet.

Actually I think that is the reason Bolton's flay Starks and others. They knew about skinchanging and were trying to learn the secrets of it.
Darkstar will be the next Vulture King.
Craster has 19 daughters and there are 19 castles on the Wall, coincidence I think not!

Some how I missed seeing this! Sorry for the delay response!
That idea could be how the Bolton's started with their flaying tradition. Wearing physical skin is a more literal interpretation of a metaphysical type of warging or skin changing, but if the Bolton's actually managed to find a way to transplant actual skin, and live much longer than a normal lifetime by bonding or melding (don't have the correct word for this) with human skin, they have developed some pretty strong magic. Creepy, but if it works, more the power to them!
My mind always veer's back to Roose's telling Ramsay that human skin would make inferior boot's, "Human skin is not as tough as cowhide and will not wear as well." Eesh! He speaks as if he knows!
Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.
