It really shows that the dumb and dumber braintrust really didn't give 2 shits about the story. They just wanted to shoot 'Baelor' and the red wedding for the shocking moments TM.
I hate to have to agree with this given how much I have loved this show at times, but damn it, I'm going to have to agree with this.
We had sunshine in December and grew our roses in the snow.
Just tried to do a rewatch. After 15minites turned it off. So sad.
It got tedious for me during the Long Burning
You nailed it. It was just tedious during the burning. Suddenly Aiya is risking everything to save some unknown woman and her child? I mean really? It was like they could not be bothered to do anything interesting so lets just give time to two people that have never been in the show, so we can show more of Aiya because who else could we possibly focus on that the fans might have more of an interest in? Oh and for good measure lets just burn up Varys because we would not want anyone with a brain to remain on the show. There's not much he can do anyway since we killed off his old sparring partner, Littlefinger. Super Aiya eliminated him as well, just as she got to kill Walder Frey, and the Nights King. Well at least she did not get to kill Cersei, so I did not have to throw my TV out the window. I have always liked Aiya, but now she's just getting on my nerves. I may have to get in the Sansa camp.

Wonder if we're ever gonna find out what the circular symbol by the "others" really means...
The Children of the Forest and First Men used glyphs and runic symbols in their magic. Remember Dany's pyre was also in the shape of a glyph: A Golden Theta which contrasts the spiral pattern we first saw in the pilot episode when Waymar was killed.
That's probably the last remaining element from GRRM left. The spiral is likely the ice glyph and the golden theta the fire glyph. It connects back to his wider works in his Thousand Worlds Universe.
And those two symbols were kept through to season 7:
Just sitting down to watch it now. Is it bad that I went to go see two movies at a cinema instead of watching live? That says something shouldn't it? For the curious: Detective Pikachu & Tolkien.
Honestly, halfway through, and I still don't see anything wrong. Dany was always going to go "mad" that was telegraphed back in AGOT right after Viserys died. The chapter after that death has her for the first time thinking of taking the throne for herself and she comes across as mad. I never really understood the Daenerys love people have for her character, that chapter did it in for me.
I fully believe the Mad Queen Dany theory. As always the problem with the show is the execution of the idea. I think people just love shouts "YAS QUEEN" at Dany, whatever that means.
Detective Pikachu is a fun popcorn flick. I went to see it because I thought it would provide a simple laugh. The plot is predictable, but it's essentially Who Framed Roger Rabbit? meets Poke'mon meets your typical thriller. Good for a few laughs.
Tolkien is your typical cookie-cutter biopic, only with LOTR references all over the place. I thought the film did best of portraying how Tolkien and his generation were a spark of life and vibrancy against a very staid and well-oiled machine world run by the older adults. See it for that essence which the film captures, but all other aspects are typical biopic fodder that everyone's seen in some form or another since the 1970s. Someone really needs to overhaul the genre of the biopic, because this old model is tired and worn out.
I think a lot of people are now going to be rethinking their daughters names... so many Danys and Khaleesis...
me-thinks it is high time - is there any time left? - that someone shows Dany a Red Door and some olive trees..
"Arya did not dare take a bath, even though she smelled as bad as Yoren by now, all sour and stinky. Some of the creatures living in her clothes had come all the way from Flea Bottom with her; it didn’t seem right to drown them."
I'm pretty sure D&D didn't know what to do with their ballistas. They were amazingly accurate when D&D wanted to remove Rhaegal. But quite ineffective when Drogo has to burn the whole city. There's no continuity.
Drogon has a force field around him, so he's impossible to hit. Just a shame Rhaegal couldn't get the same...

Martin could do it well over about 3000 pages. To even imagine that D&D would manage over so few episodes is delusional.
Indeed, I haven't cared for several seasons. Its just wonderful that everyone except the shills are finally coming around to how bad it has become. This train wreck has been amazing.
If s1 had been at the level of s5 I might have watched the whole season but fallen off shortly into s2. If it had been like s6 I would probably have managed to get e2 at the most. At this point the fandom is more entertaining than the show itself. Though the train wreck is rather amusing as well.
It's amazing how many people didn't see this coming. Granted I figured she would unleash the dragon just not on innocents. Its funny that she has burned down her city and castle.
Still image this episode that ended with Dany flying up to Cersei with Drogon and saying Dracarys.
It's the innocent part that is bothering, not that she burns down shit. And that she sacks what one would suppose would be her own city. But then again, her father did consider building a new city, so maybe Viserys included that in his bed time stories.
Dragonfire is as strong/weak as the plot demands it. Takes out the Wall. Destroys lesser walls but becomes as strong as piss when Jon Snow hides behind a rock so he can YEET at a dragon.
Do dragons have a dimmer switch? Could explain things. Or perhaps Jon has Targ fire resistance which he can transfer to random rocks in his vicinity.
Shills will be shills. There are several youtubers I have lost a lot of respect for over the past weeks due to there insistance that the show is still good. Fuck sake pick a better hill to die on.
You know, I haven't dared to watch several channels. The titles with "explained" in them makes me really chuckle. Or "Books to Show" or things like that (not naming names).
No wonder they couldn't afford any Ghost between a functioning brewery, working smithy, hand carved bowls and spoons, and shills. And all the fan service require the writing to go out of the window, so.
It really shows that the dumb and dumber braintrust really didn't give 2 shits about the story. They just wanted to shoot 'Baelor' and the red wedding for the shocking moments TM.
You do realize that their combined braintrust is of the size of a grain of sand, right?
I bet the finale will be the worst yet, as they are making their direction debut...
so much wrong, such horrible writing, and the lack of continuity just killed it for me. outside Dorne, worst episode in a long list of bad episodes. I don't care to examine it further.
A well written story that is badly shot will ALWAYS beat a badly written story with fantastic shooting. Every. Single. Time.

I think they were trying to give us perspective on the horror of war. Which makes sense.
It worked a lot better with the Field of Fire, imo.
But it went much too long--I think about other war movies and even things like Henry V--they have side moments of the fighters talking.
I'm guessing they didn't have anyone for Jon, Davos, or Arya to talk to? And Grey Worm is not fun to listen to (at least for me).
I think a lot of people are now going to be rethinking their daughters names... so many Danys and Khaleesis...
The "Dany's" are workable--just say they were named for "Danielle."
But "Khalessi" is harder--though I personally wouldn't name anything other than a pet such a thing.
I'm still surprised people didn't think Dany had this in her--they were hit and miss with the show's set up. But death of Viserys and the pyre with MMD--they've shown fire and blood Dany from the start.
me-thinks it is high time - is there any time left? - that someone shows Dany a Red Door and some olive trees..
I doubt it--though they may have her see the Drogo/Rhaego tent vision again.
All art is at once surface and symbol. Those who go beneath the surface do so at their peril. Those who read the symbol do so at their peril. It is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors. Oscar Wilde.
AH! They are finally acknowledging that the show is Groundhog Day!
Theon redoes his de-done redemption.
Sansa re-learns the same lessons over and over.
Jaime runs in circles for Cersei.
And history repeats and repeats.
Final Scene: Pennsylvania Polka! And the Groundhog is King!

That's just for the subversion for the sake of subversion. In the end, nothing really matters.
Very possible--though I'm kinda liking my brand new theory that Jon heads back north because the NK isn't done. Heads back to stand guard with a Dream of Spring--and perhaps it's only a dream and can never happen since the land is too corrupted.
And that journey is the ending of the series.
Would fit with some of the endings of Martin's other works. . . .
